Throughout this novel, I felt that either Will or Marcus would commit suicide. And then when Rachel came into the novel and I thought she was going to commit suicide when she did not meet with Will and Fiona at the bar. Will began to wonder what his life was all about and Marcus was having a "shit time" because of the pressure of his familial situations, which is why I thought one of them would commit suicide. I believe that this novel is not just about suicide, I believe that it is a coming of age story- much like Perks of Being a Wallflower- that many kids can somewhat relate to. Whether it is the coming of age of Marcus, Will or even Fiona.
Does this novel illustrate how growing up early can be both a positive and negative? Do you guys believe that this novel should be a mandatory read for all high school students? How does this novel depict how important parental figures are to the development to children, especially in their adolescentish years?
