First off, I'd like to say how excited I am to do this song. You’ve are probably already familiar with the song, "Jesus, Friend of Sinners" by Casting Crowns, but lately the song was spoken a lot more to me and I thought I would share with y'all :) I’m going to be posting the whole song verse by verse so I don’t just post one over-whelmingly (and yes, I know that’s not a word) long post. Before I jump into the song I really encourage you to listen to this short, three-minute video, which is what the writer of the song, has to say about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9HuJ...
So here's the first verse:“Jesus Friend of sinners we have strayed so far away
We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing
Jesus friend of sinners the truth's become so hard to see
The world is on their way to You but they're tripping over me
Always looking around but never looking up I'm so double minded
A plank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided”
This song begins saying how as Christians many of us have wandered away from the true spirit of Christ. We judge and condemn people in a way that only God should do. People have a natural draw towards something bigger then themselves. But when they see Christians behaving exactly like the rest of the world they are pushed away from God because of what they see, or really the change that they don’t see in us. We should live our lives not in a way that is a stumbling block for watching unbelievers but one that is an attraction that they don’t see in other religions. Instead of looking about judging people, we should be thinking about eternally lasting things and maybe we should take a look at our lives too. Where are we failing spiritually ourselves? We have a plank in our eye and we are still trying to get that speck out of our neighbor’s! We will always have a fight between our natural sinful natures and the Christ-like nature we are striving for.
I'm going to wait until tomorrow to post the next part :) Hope y'all will take the time to check it out.
Aww, this is terrific *handclaps* This is TERRIFIC?!?!!!! :D I'm really looking forward to the rest of your insight (;
This is the next part of the song and also the chorus. Enjoy!“Oh Jesus friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus friend of sinners break our hearts for what breaks yours”
Think about the phrase, “Jesus, friend of sinners.” Don’t let the importance of that escape you. Think about how God, all-powerful, sinless, and perfect, would actually be called a “friend” of sinners! That really should shock us. And if our God, whom we serve, was willing to be a friend of sinners, why aren’t we willing? Why do we avoid certain people and in private quietly condemn their lifestyles? Shouldn’t we be a friend to them like Christ did? Shouldn’t our heart break for them like Christ’s did? That is what this chorus is asking and I believe we should take the time to answer those questions honestly and make changes in our heart if need be.
Here’s the second verse:“ Jesus friend of sinners the one who's writing in the sand
Make the righteous turn away and the stones fall from their hands
Help us to remember we are all the least of these
Let the memory of Your mercy bring your people to their knees”
Here I believe some verse will help so I’m going to John 8:3-11 (NIV).
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
We have the stones in our hands sometimes ready to condemn those who we consider sinners. It’s not wrong to take a stand as a Christian against something unbiblical. However we have to realize that we ALL sin. That’s why all the teachers had to leave, because to throw the first stone was a job only God could do. He didn’t ignore her sins as some people would saying, “Oh, it’s her life.” He addressed them, but he didn’t condemn the woman and refuse to associate with her. As always Christ should be our perfect example.
(The next part is this and the chorus)So here it is:
“Nobody knows what we’re for, only what we’re against when we judge the wounded
What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did”
I kinda went over this already but here it’s very directly addressed. When we see young girls getting pregnant or committing abortion, we tend to look at them and say to yourselves, “How could she do that. I’d never do that ever, what a horrible person!” That is the wrong attitude. Even though we don’t approve of what they did, we need to help them deal with it and love them like Jesus did. That’s all, just love them. If we go around condemning people, what will the world think of Christians?
Surely!! Very good point!! The pain or hurt others feel may be so much worse than we imagine, and we could never know what they are going through! Great work ((:
Here’s the third verse: “You love every lost cause; you reach for the outcast
For the leper and the lame; they're the reason that You came
Lord I was that lost cause and I was the outcast
But you died for sinners just like me a grateful leper at Your feet”
Think of a loud, jeering mob yelling at you after you’ve endured painful humiliation for them. Yelling for you to be crucified, an extremely painful death. Would you look out at them and love them? Those people who are handicapped or disabled- people who the world sees as a problem- would you die for them? Or people who are just unpleasant to be around or plain mean and nasty- again would you really die for them? Now think about yourself, in God’s eyes you are that person, but he loves you anyway. Enough to say, “Not my will, but Thine be done.” We should thank God more often for the true awesomeness of it all!
Here’s the next part and my last post:“ 'Cause You are good, You are good And Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever”
Really, if you think about it, this part is a huge understatement. We serve a God that is totally beyond our feeble words to describe His goodness and love. Another great song that goes a little deeper into this is “The Love of God”, a hymn written by Fredrick M. Lehman. The refrain goes like this:
“Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.”
Really it is amazing that God would love and we should never take that for granted. Nor should we forget the only thing separating us from the people who we sometimes look down on, is that we’ve accepted a free gift and they haven’t yet.
If you’ve read with me to this point, I guess I can tell you to reward yourself and go listen to the song itself ;) Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY6VA...
Hey all :) It was really hard for me to pick a song, I know a lot of good ones! So I picked Strong Tower by Kutless. This song has helped me through many hard times, and it's a really good song! Kutless began playing in 1999, and originated from Portland, Oregon. They've sold over 3 million records world wide!!!Verse 1
When I wander through the desert
And I'm longing for my home
All my dreams have gone astray
When I'm stranded in the valley
And I'm tired and all alone
It seems like I've lost my way
This is the first verse, and it talks about how we can end up distant from God or how we've lost our way. It can also be talking about fear, anxiety, or weariness. We do have times like this, and it can be stressful. Sometimes in life I feel like I've gotten slightly off track, and this song reminds me that I need God to help me get back on the right track! Life also gets rough for me at times, and I feel insecure. I really feel that this verse speaks about all of these things.
Chorus:
I go running to your mountain
Where your mercy sets me free
You are my strong tower
Shelter over me
Beautiful and mighty
Everlasting King
You are my strong tower
Fortress when I'm weak
Your name is true and holy
And Your face is all I see
Here the song talks about going to God and how he is always here for us and how He is our strong King and Savior! When it says "I'm running to your mountain" It means running to Him and His safety. "Where your mercy sets me free" is mentioning God's forgiveness. "You are my strong tower" Is saying that God is our strong tower and fortress. The chorus also talks about how he is our everlasting King, and how we need to seek Him when we are weak.
Verse 2:
In the middle of my darkness
In the midst of all my fear
You're my refuge and my hope
When the storm of life is raging
And the thunder's all I hear
You speak softly to my soul
This talks about how we can end up surrounded by darkness and how God is our hope, and how He will save and comfort us! We can become anxious/fearful at times and it's good to know that He will support and protect us!
I hope this was a good song to do! I'll be posting a link to the song in a bit!

It took way more time to decide the song than anything xP But, I felt God's leading for this song, so, let's go (;

This song has touched me because of its deep meaning! This song is as a story, one that reaches down deep into the heart to remind you of those things you need to remember!! I believe I have heard this song before, for, after all, The Booth Brothers are one of my favorite bands, Haha. But, recently, while spending time with my Dad, it played again and peace seemed to flow.
So, let's get to it, eh? :D
Background:
(Taken From Wikipedia:)
The Booth Brothers was initially formed in the 1950s by Ron Booth, Sr. with his brothers Charles, James, and Wallace, after they moved to Detroit. However, Ron decided to disband the group in 1963 when he joined the Toney Brothers.
In 1990, Ron's youngest son, Michael, decided to revive the group with his brother Ronnie II, and his father. They started performing and touring around Florida and recorded several albums. In 1998, Ron decided to retire and the remaining brothers started looking for a replacement. They recorded several albums with Joseph Smith, who was later replaced by Jim Brady. Brady remained with them until 2014, at which point he was replaced by Paul Lancaster.
The Booth Brothers are an American, Southern Gospel Band that is, one of the best, in my opinion. Their songs have brilliant, deep lyrics that are based upon the love of the Saviour!
Their songs are ones that stick close in the mind and make you think! Some will make you smile, some cry, and still, some make you ponder over what life really is, and whether happiness is real. This song is one of those songs, with characteristics that would fit with all those above adjectives! (;
May it bless you!
(Lyrics:)
1st Verse:
I used to be so lonesome, I never had a friend
Always looking out for number one
Didn’t know where I was going, didn’t care where I had been
The life I lived had me on the run
One day Jesus found me and took my sin away
He showed me what I thought I’d never see
He put me in His family, and He’s with me to this day
Let me tell you what salvation’s done for me
Chorus:
I used to be a blind man, but now my vision’s clear
Mercy came and drove the shame from me
There’s peace of mind with Jesus that drives out every fear
I’m stronger than I thought I’d ever be
I can’t tell you why He loves me, as bad as I had been
Why I’m worthy of this life of victory
I know I’m not a scholar just a sinner saved by grace
But I can tell you what salvation’s done for me
Second Verse:
One day when life is over, I’ll go to my reward
Where Heaven waits for those who have been set free
With saints from all the ages, in the presence of our Lord
This is what salvation’s done for me

Analyzation:
Okay, we are gonna go line by line, rather than going verse by verse (;
(The bold, slanted words are the lyrics.)
(First Verse:)
**********
"I used to be so lonesome, I never had a friend"
**********
I really love this intro, it really touches me especially!
One of the most indwelling, pained problems in life is the fact of being alone. Loneliness is that feeling of not knowing who or what you can turn to. They are times in each of our lives we will know what loneliness really is, and, it has a dramatic effect. Many of us, if not all of us, have been up close and personal with this burdened ache! Being alone does not consist of being without or not among people; being alone means being without anyone who you can trust, love, know and believe in. That is the reason why one can be lonely, and yet, stuck in the middle of a crowd! Loneliness is being without a hope!
**********
"Always looking out for number one"
**********
I actually was not aware of what this saying meant. So, I researched xP
(From Wikipedia:)
look out for number one
(Idiomatic) To act in one's own interests; to act in a manner advantageous primarily to oneself.
Without Jesus we only care about ourselves, period. We only know that which is natural to us, human flesh, and that tells us that which makes us happy, is what matters!
**********
"Didn’t know where I was going, didn’t care where I had been
The life I lived had me on the run"
**********
Without the Lord, we are without a purpose! God created us with the most important purpose to serve and glorify Him! When we run and turn from God our purpose is forsaken, along with our very identity. Our hopes and dreams have no lasting meaning, and what we have done does not matter to us because our life seems but a vain time spent. We have no plan, no meaning, and no true joy because we have no identity or knowledge of who we are meant to be, or even the very purpose of life.
The life that we live without Christ tells us to keep going; it tells us to keep searching for that joy and happiness we have never had and felt before! Our flesh craves a meaning, yet without Jesus we have none and are only left to find our own, which never seems to fills that void in our heart.
**********
"One day Jesus found me and took my sin away"
**********
An amazing fact that we mustn't forget is the truth that Jesus does care and comes to find us! As in the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus will come to find us in our miserable state and tell us of His love! The love of Christ is unimaginable! He loves us so much, and He is as the Shepherd that searches day and night diligently for his lost sheep!
Jesus Christ will forgive us our sins, if only we would ask! He purifies us with His holy blood and sanctifies us in His glory! He will take all of our sins and trespasses away, and cleanse us!
**********
"He showed me what I thought I’d never see"
**********
This was a deep line I really was left to think upon. My belief may be different than what the writer was portraying.
I believe this line illustrates the peace and love we never would of known existed! Without the mind that Christ exists, our flesh makes us to believe we have no hope, happiness, or joy in this present life, but rather, that we are only here to suffer in our meaningless existence. But, when we get saved we find out that hope, happiness, and true love really do exist, and that, in fact, we have been able to feel it and live life this way all along!
**********
"He put me in His family, and He’s with me to this day"
*********
When we receive Christ into our heart we are a child of God, and as a member of God's eternal family! We now have Jesus living in our hearts, and He will lead us and take care of us wherever He leads us! Even in the hard times, He will be right beside us, taking care and leading us through the storms!
*********
Let me tell you what salvation’s done for me"
**********
Salvation is accepting Christ' love into our hearts, confessing our sins, believing in Him, and asking for God's forgiveness! Salvation is giving up yourself to know the Creator and His ongoing love!
As Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
When we find and experience this amazing love we want to tell others, and share this joy with everyone we know, as God commanded us!
(Chorus:)
**********
"I used to be a blind man, but now my vision’s clear"
**********
Without God our view is distorted and we cannot see or understand why we live, breathe, care, or even if our purpose or happiness exists.
**********
"Mercy came and drove the shame from me"
**********
Shame is a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. Without Christ we are caught up in our sinful lives and disastrous ways, and feel the full blunt of this sin. Sin only eats us up, and promises happiness in return, but sadly that is a promise never kept. Mercy is God's care for us, for mercy reaches down to give us peace and let us know God forgives us, no matter what we have done!!
**********
"There’s peace of mind with Jesus that drives out every fear
I’m stronger than I thought I’d ever be"
**********
With Jesus in our hearts we find that source of everlasting peace, and love, that casts out all fear!! We call this our perfect peace! Jesus is the only source of true peace and joy, and only when we give our lives to Him can we experience it!
Not only this, but with Jesus we know that He will take care of all our problems, troubles, and deal with our future! We know we are not alone and because of that, we are not alarmed at life's troubles! We may have troubles, like everyone else, but we know that One, that holds the whole world in the very palms of His hand!! <3
Because of Jesus, we are strong, not because of our own physical or mental strength, but rather because of God's caring knowledge flowing within us! We know that only He holds the future, and, because we trust in Him, we have a new and undeniable sense of strength that can never be taken away!! This strength is unlike any we could give ourselves, for, it comes from the Almighty!
**********
" I can’t tell you why He loves me, as bad as I had been
Why I’m worthy of this life of victory"
**********
His grace and love is undeniable, and still unexplainable! We, in our foolish ways, chase after whatever makes us happy and in the process ignore God and His orders completely! Our flesh deceives us daily; we are weak beings. And, still, Christ loved us! The God of the universe cared enough to die for us! Even though we were sinners, He wanted to know us!! That is the most unexplainable, but beautifully brilliant thing we can ever imagine!!
We could never explain it, but we are so glad for it!
This life of joy and celebration is not one we are entitled to, by any means. This is a gift, only given by God's mercy and brilliance!! We can never fathom!
**********
"I know I’m not a scholar just a sinner saved by grace
But I can tell you what salvation’s done for me"
**********
We may not have a title beside our name, have a degree from a well known university, or some of us do not even have an education of any kind, but, God's love spans out toward all of us! Jesus' arms spread wide for ALL to see, and because of that, salvation is a gift open to everyone! Salvation is something that can be attained by any race, gender, name, or family! Salvation is a gift God so graciously gave to us all, the weak, and the proud, the boisterous, and still, the quiet- for all!!
(Second Verse:)
**********
One day when life is over, I’ll go to my reward
**********
Those who accept Christ and follow Him are promised a reward from the Creator Himself! We have that to strive for, and there is where our mind and goals should be set upon! Our hearts must wait upon the Lord! For He, is the just rewarder of all those that diligently serve Him!!
**********
Where Heaven waits for those who have been set free
With saints from all the ages, in the presence of our Lord
**********
Heaven is our purpose and plan! Where no tears shall be cried, no loneliness or fear will be present, and light is upon us all! Peace and joy everlasting flow there because, there, Jesus is the King forevermore! Heaven is the reward for those that diligently serve Him! We are commanded to lay aside everything that besets us from the call Christ gave us, for, only a few will make it! This is a serious quest, one needing to be taken with care and thought toward all action!!
Our Lord Jesus is the center and presence of this place and is our King!
**********
This is what salvation’s done for me
**********
Salvation is the only key to life. True, there are many other sources and places one can turn to in their search for truth, but they only grasp in darkness there. Until they open their hearts and receive Christ, their life will be one of sorrow and sadness, never having an

This is what salvation’s done for me
**********
Salvation is the only key to life. True, there are many other sources and places one can turn to in their search for truth, but they only grasp in darkness there. Until they open their hearts and receive Christ, their life will be one of sorrow and sadness, never having an
never having an escape!
Jesus Christ loves you, and I surely don't tell you that for no reason. It is true! Jesus has changed my life, so much so that I couldn't imagine it without Him! I don't know what I would do! Not knowing this hope and peace that I do, I would be lost! If you don't know Jesus today, open your heart and mind and call on Him. He says, after all, if you seek then you shall find! And, you surely will! Salvation is the meaning of living- it makes us able to serve the Creator and know why we were made!!
After we are saved this joy and hope inside is brought out, to share and give to others! Our experience brings us to tell others and to live according to God's standards! True, we all make mistakes, but, it isn't the mistakes that defines us. What defines us is Who we turn to when we need forgiveness and how we strive to follow Him! This salvation brings us to live, and then share and tell others of this love!!

Great job, MK :) I read it on your blog awhile ago and really enjoyed it. I can really tell that you've put a lot of thought into it and I really appreciate it. So, hear it for MK *rounds of applause* :)
This week I chose a song that tells the Biblical story of Jacob’s ladder and his struggle with God. I thought that it was an important lesson in learning how to submit to God and receive His blessings in disguise with humble and thankful hearts. This song is called “Asleep On Holy Ground” by Michael Card. Here’s a little more information about him that I got from his website:
“In a career that spans 34 years, Michael Card has recorded over 37 albums, authored over 25 books, hosted a radio program, and written for a wide range of magazines. Michael is a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he earned his bachelor and master degrees in biblical studies. Michael has also received honorary PhD’s in music and Christian education from Whitfield Seminary and Philadelphia Biblical University. Whether it’s through his writings, concerts, or teaching, the core of what binds these seemingly diverse endeavors together is biblical community. It is at the heart of everything Michael Card does.”
Now that you know more about the artist himself here are the lyrics to his song:
“Asleep On Holy Ground” by Michael Card
A stone for a pillow as hard as his head
He slept on holy ground
The dreaming deceiver, he dreamt of a ladder
With angels up and down
And the ladder was a way
The stairway was a sign
The gates of heaven opened wide
revealing the divine
Asleep on holy ground he lay
Oblivious to the night
Inside his head and heart were full of inexpressible light
Soon he would be confronted by the friend that we most fear
Asleep on holy ground he lay
deceitful blessed seer
The dream that he dreamt now transformed to a nightmare
As he wrestled with a man
The unearthly power of his beloved opponent made Jacob understand
That the wrestling was the way
The struggle was the sign
He limped away his lesson learned
Now israel was defined
Chorus:
He limped away on holy ground awakened from the dream
Having learned his costly lesson from the way of the Nazarene
That pain's the path to blessing love will fight us to be found
and God remains a dream to those who sleep on holy ground
Let’s look at a few of the verses more closely now. The first two verses say:
A stone for a pillow as hard as his head
He slept on holy ground
The dreaming deceiver, he dreamt of a ladder
With angels up and down
And the ladder was a way
The stairway was a sign
The gates of heaven opened wide
revealing the divine
Obviously this is telling the story of Jacob’s dream after he ran away from his twin brother Esau. As the fourth line says, he was indeed a deceiver, having deceived his father into thinking he was Esau so he could get the birthright. I see this song as a progressive story of forgiveness and redemption for Jacob. After Jacob had the dream he called the land where he slept Bethel which means “House of God”. Jacob believed that God had a mighty presence there, and that’s why in this song Bethel is called holy ground.
The first chorus goes like this:
Asleep on holy ground he lay
Oblivious to the night
Inside his head and heart were full of inexpressible light
Soon he would be confronted by the friend that we most fear
Asleep on holy ground he lay
deceitful blessed seer
This chorus is full of parallels that we would think of as contradictory. For example “deceitful blessed seer” which is basically saying that even though Jacob was deceitful, God still called him blessed. Redemption starts to show it’s part here because of that and also the fact that it says “his head and heart were full of inexpressible light”. I love the fact that this song mentions holy fear towards God when it says “Soon he would be confronted by the friend that we most fear”. This is very significant to me, I think most people think that God is just your buddy, but in reality He is your creator, and you must fear and respect Him in a godly way.
The third and fourth verse say:
The dream that he dreamt now transformed to a nightmare
As he wrestled with a man
The unearthly power of his beloved opponent made Jacob understand
That the wrestling was the way
The struggle was the sign
He limped away his lesson learned
Now israel was defined
This continues the story by telling of how Jacob wrestled with a man, and was crippled by a touch of his hand. I love the lines that say “That the wrestling was the way, the struggle was the sign”. This states the true fact that our lives will not be easy, we will have struggles, but that is the way of God and it’s a lesson we must learn just like Jacob. I feel like God was very gracious to Jacob. He could have killed him, but instead he chose to forgive and only cripple him.
The last chorus sums up the song perfectly when it says:
He limped away on holy ground awakened from the dream
Having learned his costly lesson from the way of the Nazarene
That pain's the path to blessing love will fight us to be found
and God remains a dream to those who sleep on holy ground
Jacob learned his lesson and also learned about the redemption of God. In the third line it says “That pain’s the path to blessing love will fight us to be found”. I think that’s a really important fact for us to remember. Blessing can come through pain and sorrow, God will fight for us, His love will fight for us, and we should be so thankful for that!
This is a great song and if you haven’t heard it I encourage you to go listen to it now or at least look up the artist. I hope this was helpful for someone today!
