I'm going to push my procrastination for the month of this year and hope to read this one as well as Poirot's mystery. Both titles seem like they are going to be good!
I looked that night and its gone! ugh. But I found it on BBC.http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007rr0c
It is very good. It ran from 2001-2008 it says. Yes it is based on the novels. Such a great show.
British crime investigation series based around aristocratic, Oxford-educated Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley and his working-class assistant Sergeant Barbara Havers.
I was hoping to watch it after I read it. So far I'm really enjoying it. It's very character driven- what a great match this will be, Lynley and Havers, but also I'm in great suspense as to where this plot is going...
Most libraries can get the series brought in for you to check out. So when you are ready just go to your local library!

I am just now starting the book. Love the time spent developing the characters.

I understand why it's one of the century's top 100.
Your welcome Lauren! I use my library for a lot of that kind of thing. Its free and I can keep it longer if no one else wants it. Plus it helps the libraries! They really need more support and use!
When I travel or do anything that has me hands off a book due to working or driving I listen frequently to books! I have heard many styles of reading.. some I wonder if anyone listened before putting them out on the shelf! hahahaha It is a skill few posses. But when they are brilliant... I just love it.For Poirot I love when David Suchet or Hugh Fraser who played Hastings! Great character voices and a joy to listen to.
I finished! I gave it a 5. I loved the detailed characterization, the atmosphere of the village (and all of their secrets), and the interplay between Lynley and Havers. I had a solution -the killer and motive-in my head at the beginning and unfortunately I turned out to be right. That never happens, unfortunately I don't think that that part was that original so I'm not surprised if a lot of people do. However I enjoyed reading how the 2 detectives got there with their Shakespeare , classical music, and unrequited love that I will gladly read on and have already bought book 2.

I do believe I could read a whole book just about the inn where Deborah and Simon stayed. Each little bit is that well crafted it could stand alone. I usually don't mind if I can figure out the mystery as long as the writing is good. I look forward to reading book 2 as well.
I didn't mind because I did enjoy every bit of the writing. And I really didn't explain it well. I had an in intuition that turned out to be right in the end; however, I thought so many other people did it in the interim when everyone's secrets are coming out. I certainly enjoyed the plot and toward the end it was one of those books that I was losing sleep over because the suspense kept me from being able to put my book away! Oh how I love those! (Oh Shannon, you reminded me of how much we have in store for us. I know Havers and Lynley have so much to learn about each other, but we still have a lot to learn about Lynley and Deborah ' s past and Tommy and Lynley ' s past and Lady Helen Clyde and St.James' past etc. I'm so excited to read more books!

It looks to be a great series and I am look very much forward to it. All the back and side stories are such a treat.
Lauren wrote: "I was curious to check out the series too. I'll have to check out that option with my library! Thanks Annamarie!"I got to do that a while ago and fortunately a library in my county had a copy! I appreciated that but I think I've held onto it a little too long apparently. The last time I asked them to renew it for me they cut the new due date short by more than half a week so I will either have to read the whole book soon or will turn it in unfinished and check it out again in the near future.
Oh well...
Lauren wrote: "Btw, has anyone read any other books in this series? I wanted to check out the 2nd book but the reviews are not that great. But apparently the story gets better later in the series? Any thoughts?"I have also heard the series gets better. I bought book 2 but can not read it until early this summer due to some great NetGalley books that come up.I definitely don't want to skip it because of the info she gives on the main characters as we're "getting to know them." If you haven't checked it out by the time I read it,I'll post here about it.
