I am looking for suggestions of a book like the above that I can read for fuel as I transition to a more disciplined and spiritual life.

It seems to me that I have read all of the greats when it comes to new age and old age philosophies. It all started with Way of the Peaceful Warrior - the book that truly helped me to see that my life was mine for the making. However, as a Peace Corps Volunteer, I have four months until I go home. Therefore, I have four months to buckle down and develop spiritual habits, such as: Yoga, Qigong, Eating Correctly, Meditation, and Nature Hikes. During these life transformations, I love to read books that give me fuel for the long and, sometimes, arduous journey to finding my Self and finding God. Though I love philosophy, on a journey such as this, a novel with spiritual and philosophical wisdom is what I most yearn. Most likely, I have read the first book that comes to your mind. Any suggestions from the true Peaceful Warriors about a hidden gem in the millions of books out there?

Illusions by Richard Bach was inspiring for me

No Ordinary Moments and Celestine Prophecy are wonderful books to read along your spiritual journey.

"autobiography of a yogi"

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is also a good book to read; it doesn't matter if you're not into motorcycles. It is very interesting.

The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet. These are both very inquisitive reads and very cute. I like how the author explains Taoism using Pooh's metaphoric explanations.

Rod Stryker - The Four Desires

The Divine Arsonist by Jacob Nordby and of course Paulo Coelho The Alchemist and The Aleph are among my favorites all written in with wisdom sewed into the stories

More contemporary but...Lessons from a CF Cornerman: 38 Lessons I Learned During my Wife's Illness and Lung Transplant ;) Lessons from a CF Cornerman 38 Lessons I Learned During My Wife's Illness And Lung Transplant by Raymond L. Poole

THE ASHRAM: a true story of enlightenment and the dark night of the soul looks like just what you might be looking for. You can check it out at www.theashramericbullard.com and/or read a free chapter sample at bookdaily.com. Good luck!!

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, maybe?

Anything by Eckhart Tolle or Sadhguru Jaggi Vashudev.

Great recommendations above ^^^ I LOVE the Tao of Pooh and Te of Piglet. Taoism in general is a great reference for connecting with oneself. I recommend reading the Toa Te Ching, Poems by Rumi, and anything by Alan Watts (or you can always listen to his audio archives). I also just finished The Fifth Sacred Thing, which is a lovely mix between spirituality and fiction (though at times it does seem very plausible.)

Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch

IMHO there are two I would suggest to you. One is the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I think every high school graduate should receive this book. It is a beautiful reminder that, as you've said, life is for our making. The second one would be Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet." The little "sermons" within this book are powerful in of themselves. If you've read these maybe give Og Mandino's "The Greatest Salesman in the World" a try. Again, a book about transforming one's life. If you give any of these a try, let me know. I would love to hear how they helped you on your journey. Safe travels, Fernando

I suggest any of Thomas Moore's books. Two of my favorites are "The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life" and "A Religion of One's Own." Also, books by Abbot Christopher Jamison, including "Finding Sanctuary" and "Finding Happiness." An older book, but still necessary today, is "Seeking God: The Way of St. Benedict."
