I'm currently reading the physical copy right now. I really enjoyed the audio book a couple of years back before the movie came out. The version I listened to had some insights of what it took to get from novel to movie. Mr. Card was not going to have his vision of Ender corrupted by Hollywood which is why it took so long to get to film.
I have seen the movie a couple of times. I agree the book is far stronger than the movie. However, Mr. Card stuck to his guns as much as he could to keep it from becoming a twilight type teen romance movie. That is what Hollywood wanted to turn it into.
I remember the interview when he discussed the age of the characters. He was pretty adamant about not making them older
At some points in my most recent reading of Ender's Game, I have gotten a vibe of Dick Winters from Band of Brothers. How he was a great commander for easy company and how he treated the troops under him. Especially when Ender is commanding Dragon Squad is where I am getting this from.
Haven't started it yet, but I have read the book at least 3 times in the past. It's next in the queue.I'm finishing "Star Wars: The Princess, The Scoundrel, & The Farm Boy" and the audiobook of "The Force Awakens" (which is not that great of a book and although Marc Thompson does fine with the voices, he... speaks... so... slowly... ugh). I've listened to most of it at 1.5 speed and many times 2X,
On an unrelated note, I checked out The Princess Bride from the local library AGAIN, and finally finished it during the Christmas break. :-)
I finished the audiobook (for the third time) so I thought I would grab a cup of coffee, play some T-Swift and get some questions and discussion points up.
1. How did you feel about the governments funding and running a battle school to train children? Is this something you can envision happening?
2. How did you feel about Ender being lied to and misled? For example, Bonzo's death. Would Ender have been able to be the soldier he needed to be if he knew he had killed two people?
3, Did you feel like the computer game was used to discover Ender's ability to think outside the box or how ruthless he could be in achieving goals.
4. Do you feel like the genocide of another species is justified. We are led to believe that in this case it was not.
5. Do you feel like Peter could ever be a good and just leader knowing his tendencies.
6. Does Ender stand a chance at a normal life with the childhood he had?
One thing I have always struggled with Card's writing his characters often being young children. The children often seemed more mature then I felt was believable. I did some research and found some other amazing accomplishments by children. An 11 year old that won a medal of honor during the civil war. A 7 year old film director. a 17 year old CEO of a multinational company he founded when he was 14. I guess I need to accept that there are exceptional children out there.

1. i'm ok with that 2. they did what they had to
3. loved that part was so interesting to see what he would do.
4. wow tough one ...if we truely feel like it's us or them i guess so
5. How can you truely know another person's heart...maybe he would grow into the leader they need.
6. No
Rod are these the same questions you'll be asking on the ep? And will January's be in January of February?
Hoping to do it this month. Steve is busy with marathon prep and his birthday celebrations. We shall see. The questions are for the episode and discussion on here. In case people wanted to participate that might not be able to do live. Can also email to Goliversereads@gmail.com
Depending on when y'all start, I may not get to listen live. So I'll prepare a statement and send it in.
