I'm confused about the timeline of this book.

It takes place 10 years after Alice first met the Rabbit, which was when she was 16 years old. Hatcher is 10 years older than Alice, making him 26 at that time.

When Alice first met the Rabbit he had rabbit ears, but when Hatcher last saw the Rabbit, presumably when he was asking the Rabbit to protect Jenny, his ears were still normal, which means that Hatcher was at most 26 when he turned from Nicholas to Hatcher and was taken away. This happened either when or after Jenny was 10 years old, meaning that Hatcher, then Nicholas, married Hattie and had Jenny with her when he was at most 16. However, Bess said that Nicholas was 17 when he started "running with the wrong crowd" and she kicked him out, which was most likely before he started working for the Rabbit. More evidence towards this is the fact that he and Hattie had their own house in Heathtown, meaning he was no longer living with Bess when he married Hattie. It could be argued that he might've married Hattie and lived with Bess for a year (or more) before Bess became aware of his "activities" and kicked him out, but Bess said that Alice was the closest thing to a bride that Nicholas had ever brought home.

tl;dr - According to what we know, Nicholas must've had Jenny and was married to and living with Hattie in Heathtown when he was at most 16, but according to Bess, he started "running with the wrong crowd" and got kicked out of Bess' house when he was 17. I am confused.

So would that make him 36 currently and Alice 26 currently? Because Alice mentions that Hatcher has grey hairs. A man doesn't have grey hairs at 26. They most likely start getting them at 36. I'm a bit confused as well.
