Hi there, could anyone recommend any books on Libya? I am especially interested in Ghaddafi era and his policies but also on current events. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The Cambridge Modern History Series, put out a book on Libya:
A History of Modern Libya.
It covers most of the country's history since independence including all of Gaddafi's reign and was pretty good as a general overview even if it did have a heavy focus at times on the oil industry.
What the book doesn't cover is Libya's foreign relations much, so it doesn't look at Gaddafi's invasion of Chad, or his border conflict with Egypt or stationing of troops in Darfur / the attempted coup in Sudan, etc. It also doesn't really cover his fall from power except for a short afterword at the end of the book. It will give you a good look at the domestic political and economic situation under Gaddafi though.
For a look at the Libyan revolution itself, I would highly suggest:
, The Libyan Revolution and Its Aftermath.
It was absolutely excellent, is well organized, well sourced, and very detailed without being too dry. It would be best to supplement it with articles and journal pieces on recent events (I use the Libyan Herald online as one free daily source of info; the International Crisis Group is pretty good for periodic updates as can be some of the Carnegie papers). Hope this helps!
