I could use some more recommendations for H too. For now, I am looking at Hate List by Jennifer Brown, Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty, and How to Fall by Jane Casey.

Rokkan (rokk) | 8 comments An awful lot of my H title books seem to be starters for series. Holes is the one I'm going to read - it seems to be one of those staples of the library that I never got around to when I was younger - but I can definitely recommend The Hogfather by Sir Terry Pratchett (best read in December), and Hounded by Kevin Hearne, the start of the Iron Druid series.

I enjoyed "The Husband's Secret" and I think you would too. It has prompted me to buy several Liane Moriarty books!!

Sherry Lister | 45 comments I have several "H" books to read this year. I have chosen "Hollow City" by Ransom Riggs. Others to be read in 2016: "The Heir" by Kiera Cass; "Hush, Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick and THE HARRY POTTER SERIES! That's right...I've never read them! I am a HUGE fan of the movies but have never found time to read the series. I plan on doing so this year!!! I should have set my goal as 100 books to read in 2016 with the list I have! There are several series I want to continue with that are letters further in the alphabet. I will have to jump around some in the future. I'm trying to stay in order, but due to the library AND starting a book in a series and then wanting to follow up I don't think I will be able to!

I am staying close to order or otherwise I will be lost, lol, but you can do it however you want. I can't believe you haven't read Harry Potter. You better hurry if you want us to remain friends.

Melody Hill | 22 comments Holes is really good. I read it several years ago (a couple of times).

Oh good! Thanks!

Kay | 31 comments I've got The Husband's Secret on my H list, too! Just finished Big Little Lies, my first Liane Moriarty book and loved it! Also picked up The Happiness Project. Who couldn't use a bit more happiness, huh?

Kevin Koppelmann | 76 comments I plan to read How to Die in the Outdoors, 2nd: From Bad Bears to Toxic Toads, 110 Grisly Ways to Croak

How They Croaked: The Awful Ends of the Awfully Famous

Changed my mind and started reading The House of Silk (Sherlock Holmes #1) by Anthony Horowitz

I want to read Big Little Lies as well. And more happiness is always good!

I have browsed How They Croaked, it's interesting. The how to die one sounds along the same lines, fun tidbits.

Detective series are my favorite genre so there is rarely a bad one. This one was ok but a little predictable. It did however work for my H and was a book I was interested in trying. I wish it had been less predictable as a Sherlock Holmes book ought to be.

Kay | 31 comments I've started The Husband's Secret. So excited since several of you have recommended it! I know - I just finished my E book but this one was available now from the library so jumping around. I promise I'll go back for F & G!

yay! Excited to see what you think.

message 18: by Kay (new)

Kay | 31 comments Loved The Husband's Secret! Especially the Epilogue and all of its "if only" scenarios.

So I am about halfway through The Husband's Secret, and I am so glad you guys encouraged me to read it. I am LOVING it! I was so angry at all the characters in the beginning for various reasons but couldn't put it down. I now know the secret FINALLY and cannot wait to see how the rest plays out.

Melody Hill | 22 comments I'm so glad you are enjoying it. My K book I just finished was Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline. I think you would like that one too. I'm embarrassed to admit The my H book was Hell on Wheels-the worst book I have ever read. I left a scathing review on it-and then turned around and read #2 in the series-just because it was #2 and it started with an I. Life is sad some days!

Haha, Melody, that cracks me up. I'll definitely check out your K recommendation. :)

message 22: by Melody (new)

Melody Hill | 22 comments Sometimes I get aggravated about series. I simply CANNOT read them out of order, and lots of times I will read a crappy series just because it is a series (no more in that series though-really bad!)

I know what you mean though. I did that with 50 Shades of Grey. I felt like I should go on even though book one had zero plot and the writing is bad all the way through.

HIGHLY recommend The Husband's Secret. It was so good; it has put me in a book hangover. I have started 3 books since then, and while they are decent books, I just can't get excited about them because they aren't as great.

message 25: by Melody (new)

Melody Hill | 22 comments I feel your pain! I really hate when that happens.

message 26: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 10 comments I'm a little out of order on the challenge, since I'm still hung up on my B book. So I read "How Dolly Parton Saved My Life." I was initially attracted to it because of the title. However, I was disappointed. I knew the genre going in, but instead of being creative and having all of these Dolly references, there's just a music quote here and there until the end. I like the lessons each character had to learn, but I felt like something wasn't genuine in the bond? Idk.

Kevin Koppelmann | 76 comments I know Kassi won't like my history book but I would advise anyone teaching to read Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler's Shadow by Susan Campbell Bartoletti. I'm not trying to say there is a conspiracy to adjust our society through education but it made me realize how much power the education system has in molding our society. I never really thought about how society will change by the rules and norms we put into our schools.

message 28: by Melody (new)

Melody Hill | 22 comments Sounds interesting-I'll add it to the list for my 2nd go round. They say history books are written by the winners-it's interesting to see how things are shaped.

It actually sounds more interesting than most of your history books :) I might check that one out.
