Amanda R (fairyteapot) My challenge is to clear the books that have been the longest on my shelf. I'll start with 12 and see how I get on.

Amanda R (fairyteapot) 2. Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis

Babbitt is the story of a real-estate agent who is trying to live out the American dream but becomes disillusioned.

Amanda R (fairyteapot) 3. The Blackbird's Tale by Emma Blair

Set in Glasgow, this book follows 3 generations of a family from the First World War till modern day. There is romance and tragedy and everything that family life brings. It's a big read at 572 pages but the writing sweeps you in and it doesn't feel like a big book at all.

Amanda R (fairyteapot) 4. The New You Survival Kit by Daisy Waugh

I had to be in the mood to read this one. I used to love chick lit but nowadays I sometimes find the characters annoying. I started reading it and after 30 pages gave up. Not one to be completely put off, I thought I would try it again and this time I finished it. Chick lit authors whose books I would still buy are Helen Fielding, Sophie Kinsella, Lauren Weisberger, Candace Bushnell and Mike Gayle. There's bound to be more but I can't think of them at the moment. It's a genre that I am reading less of. I've already got a challenge for next year - Cheerio to Chick Lit. I've still got a lot on my bookshelf and I need to make a go of finishing them. An interesting fact is that Daisy's grandfather was Evelyn Waugh the author of Brideshead Revisited.

Hope you're still making progress!

Amanda R (fairyteapot) Hi Bev, this has proved to be a difficult challenge, picking the oldest books from the shelf. I'm in the middle of Weaveworld but because it's not what I usually read, I'm picking other books to read before it. I hope I get it finished by the end of the year. I'll put the other books into next year's list and make a big effort to read them. I think next year I'll make clearing the shelves the challenge here. That way I'll make better progress :)
