Read the young reader's edition of this book many years ago, and is about Chris Mortenson, an American that aspired to build up education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He provided education to over 50,000 school girls, and I think that if we can connect it to Malala's story and also, to our book club, this would be a perfect book to read pre Malala, or after it.

I also have been doing some research, and there have been allegations on false info presented in the book, but I hope that Emma and all other members don't care. It is more about the message in my opinion, even though the story telling might not be 100% accurate.
It's not just the allegations of false information, though, it's the mismanagement and misappropriation of charitable funds by Greg Mortenson that's an even bigger problem. 'Three Cups of Deceit' by Jon Krakauer covers this very well and the evidence is damning. I would hate to see more people buy this book and give even more money to a man who has misused millions of dollars of donations. The idea is inspiring but the reality is less so.
I am very critical of this book, the writers, and the program itself. I've written a paper on it during my undergrad, and with research and discussion, the program has its faults (apart from allegations of mismanagement). I would suggest this to be read by everyone with critical lenses -- take it with a grain of salt. Have your pen and paper ready.
