I just finished reading the Return of the Sorcerer, one of his short story collections, and it was amazing. I loved his the City of the Singing Flame, both parts, and the Enchantress of Sylaire. Enchantress even got a good poem out of me focused on her.
I was able to pick up The End of the Story: The Collected Fantasies, Vol. 1 through the points program at my work. Is this a good one, do you think?
Yeah, this book had a foreword that talked about how he was caring for and supporting his elderly parents. I read The Abominations of Yondo last night and enjoyed it. He painted some vivid scenes with his words. :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Charlene, that is actually a fairly valuable book. The first few Volumes went out of print some time ago. As per usual they are showing up for silly prices now on Amazon and Abe. There are books later in the series which are still in print, but what collector is going to purchase vol 4, 5 & 6 on their own? My OCD nature with books could not allow this :-). Well, maybe if the artwork was better, but I personally don't really like it. My dream is for Centipede Press to release lavish books by story cycle.Re: The Penguin Classics collection, it's great to see this in print. I personally was slightly disappointed that some of my favourites weren't present, but I suppose Joshi was trying to show Smith's full range rather than picking the 'best of'.
My OCD nature in book collecting would normally not let me get books out of order, but needing more CAS in my life I just recently ordered volumes 3, 4, and 5. Now I shall continue to wait and watch until the prices on the other 2 go down.
Lol! Reading so much text on a screen just bugs my eyes for too long. I just like my nice, pretty, physical books.
Email from Night Shade Books:THE COLLECTED FANTASIES, VOLUME 1: THE END OF THE STORY BY CLARK ASHTON SMITH IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR $1.99 ON AMAZON, BARNES & NOBLE, & MORE!
there is a podcast for him! they dicuss his stories. it's called the double shadow podcast. i like it, hopefully you all will too.
Oh really? How awesome! I'm not really a podcast person but that's cool that there is one. There's also going to be a CAS documentary, I was interviewed for it along with S. T. Joshi, Wilum Pugmire, Scott Conners, Donald Sidney-Fryer and others.
It's in the very early stages right now. He's still interviewing a few people. He wants it to show at the HPL Film Fest but there's no set date.

Here’s a link to the Smith story, Latasha. If you’re not familiar with it, “Genius Loci” is one of the author’s better known tales.
