Jennie (tangledupinblue) | 65 comments Bustle recommends The Icarus Girl, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Sense and Sensibility and White Teeth. What else can we add?

message 2: by Shirley (new)

Shirley Bonjour tristesse / In einem Monat, in einem Jahr / Lieben Sie Brahms? counts but I'm personally going for white teeth

Jennie (tangledupinblue) | 65 comments White Teeth is near the top of my list, too. But I've made it this far in my life without reading Pride and Prejudice, and being that this is a "challenge" I feel compelled to try.

message 4: by Shirley (new)

Shirley I love pride and prejudice, Jane Austen is kinda a comfort read for me. Not that she's too simplistic more that I know I'm not gonna get any violent real life stuff as I have been shocked with in modern novels sometimes (in a good way but sometimes I need a break) she's more in The domestic sphere of writing.

Stacy Benedict | 47 comments I read I am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced by Nujood Ali with Delphine Minoui. Very good and very sad. It's very short, under 200 pages, and it puts life in perspective.

message 6: by Teresa (new)

Teresa PS I Love You or The Strand Prophesy (written by teenage twin girls!)

message 7: by Deirdre (new)

Deirdre | 7 comments I read Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow a story about a 15-year old girl living in a Paris housing project. The author wrote it when she was nineteen, and it's very impressive (sharp, witty, observant, and honest).

message 8: by Shirley (new)

Shirley White Teeth just finished this and I loved it. She's a great writer, very funny with a great way of phrasing a sentence. She also got the weirdness of British life down perfectly, I'm a new fan and will definitely be searching more out by her

message 9: by Constanza (new)

Constanza (unaconicualquiera) I'm starting White Teeth, and so far, it's really good. Last year, I read The Icarus Girl and I totally recommend it.

message 10: by Shirley (new)

Shirley I really like Helen oyemi and its on my tbr pile at home. It's one I've owned for ages

message 11: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (naterby) | 23 comments The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon is a book that I have been wanting to read for awhile.

message 12: by Melody (new)

Melody | 16 comments I read I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb. I believe Malala was 16 or 17 when she wrote this book.

message 13: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (sparklebot) | 13 comments I'm pretty sure The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi counts for this. I wasn't able to confirm her age, but she says in interviews that she wrote it in the two years after she graduated from college. It's an unusual YA fantasy novel based on the worlds of Indian folk tales (with some Greek myths mixed in). It's surrealist and lovely.

message 14: by Riah (new)

Riah | 23 comments I went with The Icarus Girl and really liked it.

message 15: by Natalie (last edited Nov 02, 2016 02:03PM) (new)

Natalie (naterby) | 23 comments I read St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading other books by Karen Russell.

message 16: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) I read The Mothers. The author is now 26, but 26 is close enough for me to meet this category. She had been writing it since she was 17. I loved the book!
