Iove them for the most part - the narrator/reader can make or break the enjoyment.
I use either the library via overdrive (free) or buy when theres a sale or use wispersync deals through amazon.
In all I might have listened to about 200 audiobooks, mystery, suspense, and romantic suspense
I say give it a try and see what you think
I understand the pleasure of sitting quietly and reading, and listening is a bit of an adjustment, I mostly listen when I'm working in the kitchen.Sometimes though, no matter how good the story, if you dislike the narrator it does spoil it, I agree with Paris (previous comment) on that.
I love audiobooks and have a little blog where I review mostly mysteries. The Audible app is free and you have a voucher, give it a go.
Hi again theweebarrell,Your profile is set to private, so I couldn't see your preferred genre.
We could, maybe, help you choose your first audiobook if we know what you like
Hi there! As the others have said, audiobooks are great for when you're doing other things. I listen when doing housework, cooking, running, commuting. The narrators do make such a difference, but most professional readers are excellent.
I recently started listening to audio books. I never liked being read to, so it is sort of an adjustment for me, sometimes I zone out and stop listening. However, they are convenient to use when I am doing some mindless activity. They are also a help in getting me to finish some books that had been lingering on my tbr list for too long, like Howard's End. Since you have a voucher you have nothing to lose by trying them out.

Oh my goodness, several there for me to check out! I've plenty of reviews in that genre (Audio) might give you a few ideas. My favourite at the moment is Breen and Tozer trilogy set in London in the 60's, I'm on the final book now, by William Shaw
I always have an audiobook going (and a kindle, paperback, iBook) several thriller/mystery/PI/DI that I've enjoyed over the last couple of years are:The Kind Worth Killing
Silent Scream (and series)
The Stranger You Seek (and series)
We Need to Talk About Kevin
The Survivor
You
So many more.
I've just had a look at some other people's books and just noticed the "compare books" button. Magic!

More for me to look at, audio too!
I started listening two or three years ago and I had a lot of trepidation at first, but now I love it and always have an audio book going. Usually in the car or when I'm exercising.I was afraid of missing things listening that I wouldn't if I read it, so I started out by listening to books that I had already read once. After a while, I ventured out into listening to books that I hadn't read. Now I do a mix of both. Good narrators make all the difference and I've had mostly good experiences. A few become real favorites.
I use Overdrive through the library. And I mainly listen while driving. Although lately I just listen around the house, too.
I would recommend starting with something lighter and shorter to get the feel for audiobooks. I also agree with the others who said the narrator can really make the experience.
Audiobooks are great for long car trips as they make the time go faster. I also listened to audiobooks when recovering from a recent surgery as my ability to concentrate was compromised. As Donna suggests, lighter and shorter books seem to work better for me in audio format.
I am currently listening to MC Beaton's Death of a Dreamer
. I have listened to several of her works on audio and enjoyed them all. I listen while doing set up for the day and balancing the previous day's takings early in the mornings when I am at work on my own.
Also when I am mowing the lawn, out walking, or doing the housework.....I too use Overdrive through our local library.
Is it worth it as an author to have your books made into Audio books? I constantly hear people talking about it and from this thread I see people listen to them, I'm just curious as to whether or not it's worth spending money(if applicable) to do so. I feel like the whole process would be hard because you have to find a person to read it and whatever else goes into it.

I read a lot of books, but I also listen to quite a lot of audio books when I do housework, drive etc. I especially like it when the books are read by the author themselves. The most recent which I really enjoyed listening to was "The Miniaturist" read by the author. Her voice and age fitted the book brilliantly.
I love them. My last one was "The Night Circus." Now I'm listening to The Last Detective and next will be "My Man Jeeves." Our library offers Overdrive and It's great!
Jerry wrote: "Our library has Overdrive but also has Hoopla. I find most of my audio books there."I'm a great fan of the library.

I just love audiobooks (good ones, that is) and I know more and more people who are enjoying them also. I really think it's a growing industry, so personally i'd say Yes!
I have just finished listening to
Ripper by Isabel Allende. An excellent production. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
