So exited to finally read this! It will be the perfect chance to do so. I plan on continuing on with the series if I like the first installment.

PS. My library only has the Mass Market paperback edition, so I ended up getting the eBook instead.

I really really want to read this but unfortunately I am on a book buying ban for the foreseeable future. I'll have to have a scrounge round the library but I'm p sure they don't stock them :/

Hey guys I found a really really cheap paperback copy on the Barnes and noble website for $3. I think if you're a member it's free shipping but if you aren't then it's still pretty cheap.

Yeah I started it and so far.......I think the writing is ok for now but I'm only a 38 pages in. So we'll see

So I have about 100 pages left, and I'm really enjoying it! It's very different from what I normally read. I like the humour (I'm Canadian, that's how we spell things), and the plot is pretty intriguing. I haven't really noticed any steampunk-y elements, maybe more so in the later books or in the last hundred pages there will be more. I've also seen this book classified as a Fantasy of Manners genre. So far, it's been a great read.

I'm about halfway through and I love the humor, the writing is just so funny and cute.
Like Jessica said, I'm not noticing TOO much steampunk going on, but still like the Victorian setting.
Other than that though I think I'm just having a little trouble getting "into it", if you know what I mean.

Spoilers for up to page 100- (view spoiler)[ I am really enjoying the dynamics between Lord Maccoon and Alexia! Their relationship doesnt seem something that has been rushed into (so not instalove) but something that is gradually building up, especially as they appear to have known each other for so long. Does anyone else think the same? (hide spoiler)]

Also I see what you all mean about there not being many steampunk references, maybe it is seen more in the rest of the series!

just started the book, already like it!!

Just started it and am finding it a little difficult to get into and I don't particularly like the protagonist, but then again I have only read the first 10 or so pages

I'm not very far in the book yet, but am I the only person who doesn't really get how old the protagonist is??

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the lack of steampunk. It gets a bit more steampunk-y halfway through, but still.

I have one more gripe with it that I wonder if anyone else noticed as well, and that's the fact that is seems like no one actually knows how to determine what a soul is and yet it's accepted as fact that she has no soul and that's what's giving her her abilities. Did I just...interpret that wrong, somehow? I'm confused.

Yeah I thought about that too! The only thing I can think of is that the explanation for souls that the supernatural world has is more of an inside knowledge/mythology and less of a public medical observation. But I'm not sure. Maybe it will be a plot point later about whether or not the whole preternatural=no soul and supernatural=too much soul thing is valid or not! That would be fun!

I just finished Soulless yesterday and I have mixed feelings honestly... ahhh

I felt that Alexia considered every other female (except for the Queen) inferior. She was also like this to anyone her wasn't both physically and mentally strong (AKA Mr MacDougall), but that was the biggest problem I had, and the others were more the pacing and action and how slow it was at the beginning.

But I really did like the relationships that were clearly developed and the relationships were also clear. Also the "Lady Maccon" <3 That really made my heart melt...

So 3/5 for this book and I can't wait until the next one!

I agree! I kept laughing out loud when I was reading it. It is such a fun read. I think I will probably finish the series.
