Melody | 211 comments Jeffrey Eugenides' other big book, Middlesex, is also set in Detroit. Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison is set in Michigan. I've never read the book, but I LOVE the film of Anatomy of a Murder, and the entire thing takes place in the UP. Also, I've only read his Miami stuff, but I know a lot of Elmore Leonard's stuff is set in Detroit.

Melody | 211 comments Also, if you or any other Michiganders like non-fiction, I have a couple of non-fiction recommendations! Malcolm X was born in Lansing and much of The Autobiography of Malcolm X takes places there! Another interesting non-fiction book set in Michigan is The Three Christs of Ypsilanti: A Psychological Study. It tells the story of three different patients at an Ypsilanti mental hospital who all believe that they are Jesus Christ. It's a really interesting study on both mental illness and neurotypical ideas of identity and faith. Just a warning though, a lot of the psychological methods are outdated and less than ethical. It was written in the 50s I think so a lot has changed.

Juanita (juanitav) | 743 comments I just finished Detroit Resurrected To Bankruptcy and Back by Nathan Bomey for this prompt. It also fits "published in 2016."

message 6: by LiteraryMarie (new)

LiteraryMarie A non-fiction recommendation for this prompt is Writing My Wrongs. The author was featured on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday.

A fiction recommendation for this prompt is The Turner House. Very good story set in Michigan!

Laurie Cass writes a cozy mystery series centering around a woman who drives a bookmobile. It is set in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula.
