I wish I enjoyed LoTR more but the books are too descriptive and long and boring. *sigh* lol

message 5: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) That's the issue I'm having with them (plus, I just don't care for the fantasy genre), but I told my husband I would read them so we could have a movie marathon when I finish. This is one of the rare instances where I prefer the movies. I would pick up something else in between, but I know that if I stop reading them and start something else, chances are good that I won't pick them back up. As a result, my reading rate is at a crawl. Maybe the second LOTR book will be better?

The Two Towers was my favorite of them all, then Return of the King. But yes, the movies are infinitely better because they cut out most of the meandering, even though they are still long movies!

message 7: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Those are my husband's favorites as well. I've been promising him I would read them for years, so I'm just going to suck it up and get through them.

60 pages of foot-grass-foot-grass, 2 paragraphs of fighting, then ten pages of food and philosophy... and yet I've grown to love them, lol!

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments The first was my least favorite too. Here's hoping you enjoy the other two more.

Charity (charityross) So far I'm enjoying The Two Towers a lot more!

Most people do like the second book in the trilogy the best :) If you ever feel the need to pick up the audio versions of these, the ones narrated by Rob Inglis are great... just skip the poetry because he tries to sing it, lol. Now, on to what you really want to read :D

Oh yay, you finished! Congrats! :) Now have fun watching all million hours of the movies! ;)

message 15: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Thank you! While I'm still not a fan of the fantasy genre, I have no regrets about reading Tolkien's epic saga. I'm looking forward to diving back into the movies and seeing if there are things that I missed in previous viewings.

The Lord of the Rings took me forever to read! It's just too much and too long for me in addition to the issue that I don't really like fantasy, science fiction, etc. We went to see the movie and that was honestly painful too.

message 19: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Same! I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre, and I agree, much too long. I did, however, find the movies to be pretty decent. At least there wasn't all the singing. Ha ha.

This sounds really good! The title totally caught my eye and I had to click. lol!

message 36: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) The title is quite provocative -- don't you love it?! I didn't write a review for Goodreads, but I did submit one for a work-related website. Here is the review:

"I wanted tits more than anything in the world. I thought they'd be the answer to all my problems." — Jennifer Hayden

The Story of My Tits is one woman's graphic memoir homage to her bust. Author Jennifer Hayden spent most of her life seeing loved ones afflicted by cancer, all the while thinking, "Am I next?" She was. After being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 43, Hayden started recalling her relationship with her breasts throughout her short life with them.

Each chapter in The Story of My Tits focuses on a different stage of development of her breasts and how she was defined by them at that moment in time. Starting out as a flat-chested, carefree girl, heading into the "when will these things ever grow?" frustrations of puberty, venturing on to the sexual awakening of a full-bosomed woman, adjusting to nourishing babies as a mother, and, ultimately, coming to terms with being a no-breasted cancer survivor, Hayden explores how her chest has shaped her life.

While I went into this book expecting a cancer story, I received much more. Hayden's raw, emotional tale juxtaposed with her simple, charming illustrations packs a punch. Often humorous, at times tragic, and always so poignant it hurts, The Story of My Tits shows, in beautiful detail, how our bodies are ourselves.
