I live in NC, but I'm using VA because that's where I was born and grew up so I consider my it home state. I'm from Bristol over in the mountains so I thought I'd give Big Stone Gap a try. Since it takes place so close to my home town, I'm hoping it will be an enjoyable read!
That brought to mind a few other Virginia books!Sharyn McCrumb has written a lot of books (maybe all of her books?) set in Appalachia.
Also Shenandoah Home by Sara Mitchell has been on my to-read list for a long time. I think that's a series.
I live in the mountains, though further north than Bristol. Was born and raised up in northern VA though.
I just finished Mislaid by Nell Zink. It takes place all over Virginia, and Zink herself is a native Virginian. A good read!
I am not actually reading this book for the challenge-I read the first couple of chapters but it was not the right fit for me! I wanted to post it in case someone else was interested though, it's described as a modern day twist on Pride and Prejudice and set in rural Virginia!https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
