Jeremy wrote: "good luck on the challenge! What book is up first?"Thanks, Jeremy! I`m currently reading The Voyages and Adventures of Captain Hatteras by Jules Verne. My sister chose this book for me to read. She has chosen 5 books that i have to read this year. This is a 3rd year we have a little challenge where we choose few books for each other to read.
Winter wrote: "I love that! What did you choose for her?"I chose a book by latvian author. It`s Mežvidu velns . I chose just one books for her this year, but i let her choose 5 for me.
You can check my challenges her:http://cup-of-letters.tumblr.com/chal...
The challenge with your sister is such a great idea, I wish mine was into reading as much as I am so I could share the experience with her, but then again she's still a little youngGood luck on your challenge !
Thank you, Fadwa! You can do the challange with your friend or anyone else in your family who likes to read.
Just finished the first book of the year. It was Kaķis maisā by Linda Nemiera. gave the book 4 stars. It`s a fantasy novel about people with two natures - human and animal. The main character is a cat.
Currently reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. So far i like it. Can`t wait to know how it ends.
Good luck on your goal this year. :)I would love to read a good Latvian book if you have any recommendations. It looks like we have very similar tastes in books.
I loved the mortal instruments.
Anything fantasy, sci fi, dystopian or end of the world would be great.
Thanks :)
Hannah wrote: "The Mortal Instruments series is one of my favorites! Who is your favorite character so far?"I like the cat. :) I`m reading a translation so i don`t know hoe to spell the name of the cat. :D
I don`t have a favorite character. Who is yours?

Thank you, Steph!
I could recommend some, but you probably don`t read in Latvian. I have no idea what has been tranlated in English. You could try something by Tom Crosshill. He is Latvian, but he writes in English. I have read his stories and i really liked them.
If you like fantasy you probably would like Linda Nemiera, i love her books, but they are not translated as far as i know.
Honestly I love all the characters they all have something that I love about them! I loved Jace and his sarcasm as well as Alec and his sassiness! Isabelle is so tough and I like that about her, while Clary is brave. Overall I love the majority of the cheaters! And yes the cat Church is pretty awesome!

It`s so interesting to know how the names of the characters names are written in English. I would have never guessed from the Latvian translation. :D Jace = Džeiks.
It's my native language. :) it's easier for me to read in Latvian. I read in English too, but just little slower. I like English language, learned it in school, but back then I wasn't good at it. When I fished school I started to read more in English and know I know it pretty well. :)
Hannah wrote: "I wish I was bilingual but sadly I am not :( I have always wanted to be though"You can always try to learn a new language. :) I`m sure there are a lot of places when you could go.
Hannah wrote: "Very true! To be honest I've always wanted to learn Welsh! Ha ha"You should try. :) That would be great.
Finished City of Ashes today. It was ok. Am looking forward to reading the next one to see how it all ends.
So the next book for me will be City of Glass.
The second book and the fourth book in the Mortal instruments are my least favorites! I thought City of Glass was great, can't wait to hear your thoughts!
This conversation makes me want to read the mortal instruments series too! Thinking about picking it up soon... Also: you're doing great on your reading challenge Liene! Good luck :)

You should read The Mortal Instruments. It would be interesting to hear what you think.
Hannah wrote: "The second book and the fourth book in the Mortal instruments are my least favorites! I thought City of Glass was great, can't wait to hear your thoughts!"Can`t wait to actually get a chance and really start reading. I have read just few pages. The life got in the way. :)
Finished City of Glass by Cassandra Clare. I liked it. I liked that the angel killed Valentine. I don`t know why I liked that. I like that the Valentine was a fool and thought that the angel will do whatever he wants. :)
This morning quickly read What Cats Teach Us...: Life's Lessons Learned from Our Feline Friends. It`s a nice book with beautiful pictures of cats. Of course if you like cats. I love them. the book was sent to me by my friend.
Finished Babylon Revisited. I like little boos like this. It`s quick read. I liked the stories. Mekes you thnk about life a little.
Finished Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. I really liked it, It`s such a cute book, with Awww moments. It made me smile a lot. I really recommend it. Now i want to read more books by Rainbow Rowell. I have started two books, but i can`t really read any of them. I don`t know why.. I`m in a search for a book that will meke me want to read it.
I`ve been so lazy with updating my reading. Bad me. :DSo... Since i finished Eleonor & Park
I have finished.
1. Matilda by Roald Dahl. This was a re read. I liked it. Last time i read it a long time ago. I was reading and remembered the movie. I had never noticed the difference between them until now.
2. Vientulība tīmeklī by Janusz Leon Wiśniewski. Well... I don`t know where to start. I was so disappointed with the ending. The book in general i liked, but not the ending. I wanted to throw the book across the room. It just made me angry. It`s a romantic book about two people that met online and how they fall in live over the internet.
3. Kas ir kas Harija Potera pasaulē by David Colbert. This was an interesting read. I just wish it was written when all the Harry Potter books was out. It`s written when there was just first four.
4. Mīl, nemīl, mīl by Rita Missūne. I can`t say that it was a bad book, I just didn`t re3ally enjoy it. It`s about a girl who goes to a small town with a guy she`s in a relationship with. She feels in love with another guy. Her so called boyfrend is always away... i don`t know..
5. Ziemas deja by Gary Paulsen. I wtarted reading it as a hardcopy, but just couldn`t. So i finished it as an audiobook. It was good, but yet again not really my stile. There was moments that was funny and made me laugh.
6. Bāris. by Juris Neikens. It`s about a boy. His father died when he was little and his mother spoiled him. He had a hard life. He was naive and got in trouble. It shows how much bad can mother do when she`s spoiling her kid and are doing everything for him and is not teaching a kid how to do simple things, work ethics etc.
I`m currently reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I`m reading a translation. I didn`t know it was translated to Latvian. I found it at the library i work in and i had to pick it up. I have couple more books from the library at home, too many. :D
on my currently-reading shelf here on goodreads i have a book called Kapteiņa Haterasa piedzīvojumi Ziemeļpolā by Jules Verne. it`s been there since the January and i haven`t picked it up in a while. For some reason i just can`t get myself to read it. I know i will finish it. I don`t like the leave books unfinished even if i don`t really enjoy them.
So this is it. for now. :)
We have a Blind Date with a Book in my library. I just picked up un unwraped mine. It`s Bites by Meelis Friedenthal. The 3rd book in my currently reading pile. :)
Since the last update. I mostly read translations. Just one of these books are just in Latvian. 1. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I had seen a movie and new there was a book. I found book in my library and i just had to pick it up. I liked it. But it`s so sad how some people think they are better than others. It`s quite sad to think about those kids... Book that makes you think.
2. Feju stāsti by Dace Lasenberga. I got this book as a gift from my dance teacher after my first performance. I was a Rose Queen. And this book is about Rose Fairy. Every flower has it`s fary that takes care of them when they bloom. It`s a nice story about how you shouldn`t think you are better than someone else.
3. Ādama un Ievas dienasgrāmata by Mark Twain. This was such a funny book. I like the Adam`s side. It`s quick, funny and easy read.
4. Bites by Meelis Friedenthal. I didn`t enjoy this book at all. I just didn`t understand it. I`m not saying it`s a bad book, but it`s just wasn`t for me.
5. One Plus One by Jojo Moyes. So... I heard a lot of good things about this book before i picked it up, so i had quite high expectations. Sadly it didn`t reach my expectations. It was good with some funny moments. sometimes reading and hearing reviws ruins the book.
6. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I like it. But in my opinion Eleanor & Park was better. I was left confused after finishing it. For some reason i did`nt really liked the ending. But i enjoyd reading it.
I`m currently reading Vecās Kapsētas Spoks by Janis Ivars Stradins. It`s Latviam author. It`s a crime novel about two detectives. I quite like it so far.I just picked up A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets by James Bowen at the library and will be starting it like any day. :)
I`m so close to my goal.I`ve finished 6 books:
1. Vecās Kapsētas Spoks by Janis Ivars Stradins. As i wrote before it`s a crime novel by a Latvian author. I liked it. It wasn`t predictible and slow. I really did enjoy it.
2. Ielas kaķis, vārdā Bobs by James Bowen (A Street Cat Named Bob). It was a good book. I love cats, so it would be a shame if i didn`t like the book at all. Bob is such an amazing and interesting cat and i`m glad that he helped his human James get back on line.
3. Herbe ar lielo cepuri by Otfrīds Preislers. It`s a children`s book. I know about it since I was little, but hadn`t read it. I had heard a radio play based on the book and really liked it as a child. I enjoyed it now too. It reminds me of mu childhood and i remember the songs from the play.
4. Eņģeļa spēle by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. it`s a secon book in the series, but it can be read first too. I has nothing really to do with the things that happen in the first book. The story is quite captivating. The book was on my table for month, but when i finaly picked it up i finished it quite quickly.
5. Rīt es sākšu jaunu dzīvi! by Gilles Legardinier. What can i say. It was ok. By the end the main carracter started to annoy me too much. I`m the same age that she is, but she acted like a crazy person. I didn`t like her. I don`t have a lot to say about this book.
6. Katrīna pēc Katrīnas by John Green ( An Abundance of Katherines) .
I`m done with my 2016 Reading Challenge. These are the last three books.
1. Pēdējais vienradzis by Peter S. Beagle. It was good. For some reason i can`t think of anything to say about this book. I finished it more than a month ago.
2. Besa by Nora Ikstena. It`s a book my a Latvian author. It was ok. I just found the main cahracter a bit crazy. She lives alone with her two kids, her husband was abusive and left her a while ago and she doesn`t know anything about him. Her mother was an alcoholic. One day she meets aman in a bus station while she waits for her bus to go home. They didn`t even talk. He asked for her name and where she lives and she just said her name and the post code. And he started to write her love letters and she just fell in love with the guy. I found his letters strange, i didn`t undestand them. Now that i write this i want to change my raiting.. I originaly gave the book 3stars.
3. Yes Please by Amy Poehler. This was good. It made want to watch SNL and Parks and Recriations (I don`t know how you write it and too lazy to look up).
