Thanks, Jen. My goal was to read 100 books this year, but I'm not sure I'll make it. I'll finish #98 this afternoon. It helps to be retired.

There were too many standouts. If I started naming them, I'd regret that I didn't cover all, and I'm about to review a 37th book. I will say, however, that Jo McDougall is my favorite female poet. I'm allowing myself a top from each gender so I don't have to choose between them. (The other is George Bilgere.) I've also been recommending

12. From the Ruhr to Somewhere Near Dresden, 1939-1940: A Child’s Journey by Rose Mary Boehm

because of its unique perspective, looking at WWII through a German child's eyes.

p.s. I tried to name my 10 favorites and couldn't even narrow them that far. Each poet is so unique that I love them in different ways. I'm much better at choosing my favorite novels in a year.

Jawanza | 20 comments Thank you. I am a slow reader and my time is limited. I will start with McDougall.

She's a quick read: short, concise poems that pack a wallop.
