Frances (frankie1199) | 28 comments Hey, so I thought I would reach out to you guys on a longshot since there is a lot of reading that goes on between everyone in the group.
So a while ago (2007) I read a book from a used book store about a kid whose evil neighbor turns makes a potion that turns children old. So then she infects all the children by giving them sweets made out of the potion. The only child not infected is the main character who has to race against time to make all the kids in Britain (I think) young again including his brother.

I can't remember the title, author, or any character names, but if any of you guys have read it or heard of it I really need to figure out what it is because it's making me crazy.

P.S. It's definitely NOT The Witches by Roald Dahl, but it's very similar.

Kayla (kaylawhata) | 55 comments Did you ever figure out what the book was? I just saw this post a couple of days ago and posted your question to a librarian facebook group. No hits yet; one suggestion was a picture book but it sounds like this was a chapter book, right?

Frances (frankie1199) | 28 comments Yeah, I still haven't figured it out and I've been asking everyone I know!

Thanks for spreading the word!!

Kayla (kaylawhata) | 55 comments I posted it to a YALSA book listserv and someone responded with Witches, even though I copied and pasted your blurb with the P.S.

-_- hopefully others will chime in with guesses!

Kayla (kaylawhata) | 55 comments Another response:

"When I first read this I thought, that sounds like The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull (which was published in 2007), but the becoming old part does not match exactly (but they are looking for a talisman that is rumored to be the fountain of youth) , but the part about a woman giving people sweets made out of a potion that does something to them that has bad consequences they have to fix sounds right."

Frances (frankie1199) | 28 comments No, I've read that one and it's not the same. This one is almost definitely british.

Thanks so much for helping, I've been going crazy!!
