Matthew | 5 comments Hi

I am an author and write, mostly, in the humour genre. A tough nut to crack due to the vast array of different types of humour people possess. I would say my stories can be quite dry with lots of one liners and wordplay.

I have 4 released so far, two short stories and two novellas, and they're all very cheap, just £0.99. If you're interested I'd love to share them with you and hear what you think, if you'd like to review them, that would be great.

It's hard to find groups where people love reading humour. Last Christmas and Bittersweet are the first two, followed by The Bachelor and Albert's Christmas.

Let me know what you think, don't be put off that they are village stories, I don't write for them to be cutesy, it's mainly a backdrop and feel they could work in a number of settings :)

Thank you :)

My new book The Bumpkinton Tales: Volume One is available to buy now in paperback (for the first time) and on Kindle. It is made up of 5 short stories and novellas called:

Last Christmas, Bittersweet, The Bachelor, The Family Jewels and Albert's Christmas.

If you enjoy light, humorous stories then this is for you. Here's the synopsis:

Welcome to Bumpkinton!

Come in, have a cup of tea and a scone, and lose yourself in five humorous tales from the village. Follow Father Whitworth O’Grady as he chokes on a penny, Albert Scatterhorn as he becomes the grubbiest Father Christmas ever, and Amelia Goose as she feuds with… well, anybody.

Plus a whole host of characters as they attend the village’s first Singles Night with a sex-crazed ladies’ man. Jump in and find out more for yourself…

I hope you enjoy it and if you enjoy it, I'd love a review.

Matthew | 5 comments Hi

I'm running a giveaway for a signed paperback of my new book, The Bumpkinton Tales: Volume One.

If you enjoy light, humorous stories then this is for you. Bumpkinton is a village that's hard to find but packed full of interesting and odd characters. Follow the characters as they tackle choking on pennies to facing up to a sex mad ladies' man on Singles Night.

The book is aimed at everybody, there is no bad language and the adult themes are not explicit. Sit back with a cup of tea and a scone and enjoy the silliness :)

Matthew | 5 comments It’s always a thrill to meet famous people and to meet famous authors, for me, is exciting. On Saturday 21st May, I had just such a pleasure, a chance to meet the fantastic Frank Cottrell Boyce at a local bookshop called Write Blend. Write Blend have been running a month-long book festival called Blend of Words with a number of fantastic events for writers.

From publishing to just plain old ‘How to get started…‘ they’ve had it all and I’ve been lucky enough to be able to attend a couple of them. The shop have also been kind enough to stock my new book, which I cannot thank them enough for. Anyway, I digress. The end of the festival also celebrated the 1st birthday of this fabulous bookshop that works with local, aspiring authors. And what better way to celebrate than getting a big, local name in to celebrate.

Frank Cottrell Boyce has worked on a number of TV shows, from Brookside to Coronation Street and also wrote the Peter Capaldi Doctor Who episode ‘In The Forest Of The Night‘. He is most famous for the movie, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle and for the book of the same name, as well as writing two sequels in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang series.

He read excerpts from three of his books, his new release Sputnik’s Guide to Life on Earth, The Astounding Broccoli Boy and Cosmic. It was wonderful to see a famous author in full flow, he held the children and adults in attendance spellbound as he energetically read excerpts and took questions. It was funny to see that a children’s author can still come unstuck by the randomness of a child’s question.

It was a pleasure to watch and to meet the man during his book signing later on in the afternoon. A lovely man who was extremely encouraging when I mentioned I was a new author and also encouraging to know that even he finds motivation to write difficult at times. “I know I should write,” he said, “but half the time I wander off and Hoover the carpet, anything that distracts me from having to start writing“. I’m sure fellow authors will understand that one, I know I’m guilty of that a lot!

A big thank you to Write Blend, to all the staff and helpers for a great festival and I’m hoping to become involved more with the next one. If you ever get a chance to meet an author, if you’re one yourself, then do. You’ll find they’re every bit as crazy as the rest of us (in a very lovely way of course!).
