I've recently started getting into the genre, but I haven't read too much Sci-Fi and I could use a few recommendations for the stuff I'm looking for. I like really dark, gritty Sci-Fi. Things that take place in a kind of grimy future. Something like Neuromancer, Transmetropolitan, Vol. 1: Back on the Street, or Heavy Metal. Horror/Sci-Fi is also something I'm looking for. Anything that has the atmosphere of movies like Alien or The Thing. Any answers are greatly appreciated. :)

I just finished Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson and thought it was fantastic. I can understand why it's the favorite book of a lot of people. From what you wrote, I think you'll enjoy it. It's dark and gritty but with a sense of humor.
For horror/Sci Fi You might like stories about Chtulhu. H.P. Lovecraft invented it, and many authors have taken up the guantlet: Stephen King, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, Robert Bloch. See New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos for one. Cthulhu: The Mythos and Kindred Horrors by Robert E. Howard is another. There are a lot of these stories, some campy, some in an early, non-scary style, and some that might give you chills sitting in front of a fire. Writers often take tales of Cthulhu pretty damn seriously.
