I really enjoyed the Regency setting. I love a good historical mystery:) I thought the writing was good and the main characters were charming. I am looking forward to February so I can continue the series.
Having read the entire series I appreciate how the story lines keep getting better and better. And the characters more fully developed.

I am now trying to line up what books I'll read outside my group/buddy & beta commitments, and which books I need to order for February to continue the series by several different authors : )
The regency period is my preferred historical genre. I wouldn't have begun the story if it had been set say 40 years later in the Victorian age.I didn't like the fact that Kat is an actress, I didn't like the class cross over. I know it did happen but once again the scandal of being openly with someone of a different class would have been overwhelming - so I hope this doesn't develop.
I will continue book 2 in February.
This was an exceptional story for me, primarily because of the historical context and how it was effectively used. I also appreciated how skillfully the characters were developed...no one-dimensional people here with all having decided flaws along with their positives.
The strong sense of setting was both a benefit and a distraction. I'm one of those readers who savors every word and sentence, which eventually bogged me down. It took me a week to read this story and about the 60% mark, I had to decide to judiciously skim, which I really don't like to do. I need a mystery to move more fluidly or I get restless. So, I'm having to sacrifice a bit of Harris' wonderful writing to move at a more rapid reading pace.
I'm definitely continuing this fab series.

Oh!!!!! I did that with this one:) Fortunately, my Kindle app includes the Wikipedia summary along with dictionary references.
I'd forgotten that slowed me down, too, but that's not a bad thing. I love when I learn something new.

Game on! I'm really happy to be reading this series. I love historical fiction and mystery so this is the best for me. The fact that it has romantic elements sweetens the deal, especially since it's not driving the story.
I really loved the regency setting and that the author made it feel very real to me. I am no history expert but it just felt right to me. I also enjoyed the slices of Sebastian's personal life that we got and his family's secrets were just as intriguing to me as the main murder mystery.I didn't appreciate the presence of Kat. lol
I'm no expert either, Veronica, but it felt and seemed authentic. (We seem to have a common theme here with Kat:))
