Book #7 to be chosen for our book of the month is:

Vengeance Be Mine Vengeance Be Mine (Cosmic Balance #1) by Louisa Lo

This book is unique not only of its own merits, but also because it happens to be our BOTM for January. It was posted late due to some unforeseen circumstances, but once I did post it, I found myself reading about it more carefully. It seems to have elements of a typical Urban Fantasy, but also some very unique qualities. So, this month, I am nominating VENGEANCE BE MINE as our **Unique Book Feature.

What reviewers are saying:

- "This was a refreshing urban fantasy story as it revolves around Megan is a typical university student trying to figure out her place in the world, except instead of hoping to pass the bar or get into med school, she’s studying to become a licensed vengeance demon. This is the first story that I have read that revolves around vengeance demons.

If you want a good laugh, love action and urban fantasy, and like a strong heroine then I highly suggest this book, you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to read more books by Louisa Lo."

- "What can be said for VENGEANCE BE MINE by Louisa Lo? Well, a-MAZ-ing cover, great blurb that hooks a reader, fun and snappy characters, a strong voice and a diverse cast.
All very good things for this NA book that is breaking away from the mold that 90% of NA books follow, proudly declaring it's self Urban Fantasy NA."

- "The humor of how Megan Aequitas choose her vengeance punishment was so apropos. She is smart, but because she is a blend of two opposing types of magical creatures, she struggles for acceptance in her world. This quote should illustrate the conflict of the two types of magic:
“Vengeance magic stemmed from cold logic and sense of duty, while trickery came from a love for fun and mischief.”
This book involved all your senses."

BLURB:

Megan is a typical university student trying to figure out her place in the world, except instead of hoping to pass the bar or get into med school, she’s studying to become a licensed vengeance demon.

Nineteen-year-old Megan Aequitas is the only vengeance demon and trickster hybrid ever born. In a world where vengeance demons are respectable, rule-obsessed guardians of the Cosmic Balance, and tricksters are playful, happy-go-lucky perpetrators of chaos, being half and half is, well, tricky.

Determined to prove herself worthy of her vengeance blood, Megan enrolls in University of Demonic Studies’ prestigious co-op program. Wreaking karmic revenge on wrongdoers from cheaters to crooks sounds fun and simple, if it weren’t for the unsuspecting human roommate, Megan’s flamboyant trickster half-brothers, a changeling-raised fellow outcast, and a trio of evil wannabes. Then one assignment turns deadly when Megan discovers a plot to unleash an ancient force so authoritarian, most creatures would be deemed too unworthy to exist.

After a lifetime of being embarrassed by her trickster tendencies and striving to fit in vengeance society, Megan now has to learn to embrace both of her worlds if she wants to save them.

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 34 comments I have a couple of books to finish before I get to this one, so maybe at the end of the month...

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 34 comments I ended up reading this one earlier than planned and I'm so glad. It was a fun book.

I meant to update my progress here, but I ended up reading it straight through since I was enjoying it so much. The vibe sort of reminded me of A Demon Bound (Imp, #1) by Debra Dunbar Stolen Souls (Imp World #7) by Debra Dunbar Unfinished Muse (Mt. Olympus Employment Agency Muse, #1) by R.L. Naquin and Maggie for Hire (Maggie MacKay, Magical Tracker, #1) by Kate Danley . I enjoyed the humor, but it was especially refreshing to find a book without any boy angst in it. (Yay!) Megan was way too busy to spend much time thinking about boys anyway. :P

I'm curious to see where the series will go from here. No cliffhanger, but Ms. Lo left some interesting possibilities for the next book. I plan on reading Before Vengeance (Cosmic Balance #0.5) by Louisa Lo later this month.

Amber (bookvampirewub) | 7 comments I am reading this one now, it is a good book. I am scared to finish it, because I love it so much.

Stephanee | 40 comments For the most part I liked this book, but there were some parts that lost my interest, but then I would get pulled back in.

Bonnie Jennings | 5 comments I found this one cute and funny at the beginning. About halfway through it picked up and yeah, I was hooked. This is completely different than anything I've read and really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the next.
