Toni Morrison is from Ohio and several of her books are set there. I personally recommend The Bluest Eye. Beloved is also set in Ohio, but I can't recommend it in good consciousness as I very much disliked the book. I know Sula is also set in Ohio, but I have yet to read it. The Broom of the System by the late David Foster Wallace is set in Ohio, as well as parts of Sharon Creech's lovely Walk Two Moons. Finally, graphic novelist, Harvey Pekar, is from Ohio and most if not all of his work is set there.
I started reading How to Tell Toledo from the Night Sky by Lydia Netzer but it was so bad that I gave up on it. Now I need another one...
Les Roberts has a whole series of novels set in Cleveland, starring a cop-turned-PI. Mystery with a good dose of humor. "A Shoot in Cleveland" kept popping up on lists so I read it. It's in the middle of the series but was still very readable. Now I'll go back to the first book, I liked it that much!
Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie is set in Ohio (both in Columbus and an isolated area in south Ohio). A romantic ghost story inspired by Henry James' classic novella The Turn of the Screw.
