So I have kinda given up of this group for awhile. It is hard to keep tabs and we all live lives busy busy. Currently back in the swing of things with reading. So far i have gotten a few chapters into this and am surprisingly pleased. This is def a apocalyptical romance with a different twist on zombies. So far it is becoming weird in a good way, and hopefully it will not disappoint.

Sabrina (sabrinafedel) | 6 comments I'm currently reading The Golden Yarn by Cornelia Funke. It's the third in her Reckless series (fantasy). I'm different from most, I suppose because I like the first book more than the second. That seems to not be the norm when I read reviews. But I am really liking this one so far. And she has her own illustrations in it and she's a very gifted artist, so it's visually a beautiful book. Her prose is really beautiful, too, although sometimes I have to think about the sentences because they are so ornate. I also just finished The book of Laney by Myfanwy Collins and thought that it was really well written. It's a dark book as it's based on her brother having been part of a mass casualty school attack, but I thought it was written with a lot of empathy and some beautiful prose.

Sabrina (sabrinafedel) | 6 comments I haven't finished the Golden Yarn yet as I had to put it aside for books I had to read for work. I'm currently reading Dreams of Trespass by Fatima Mernissi. It's about her life growing up in a harem culture (using the term to mostly mean living with extended family in a compound) in Morocco. She has a really nice, simple style of storytelling as if she is sitting with you in her living room, serving you tea and just talking. Beneath this simple style is a fierce feminism that challenges the way she was raised while also celebrating the relationships she had with family members and the things she loved about her childhood. I'm only on chapter seven, but it's a very easy, enjoyable read so far.
