I'm really enjoying this so far (it's my first read in this group!). I love the tone of the book, it matches well with the setting and it... slowly unfolds, quite a slow but not lethargic pace, which I think suits the story it is telling. I'm also particularly enjoying the character of Toti, the assistant reverend, and I agree completely with his methods with Agnes over the ones the District commissioner is advising!
I agree with you about the reverend. I really liked learning more about Agnes and her past. I found Natan a very interesting creepy character.
It's my first read with this group and I'm so thankful the hosts picked this book. I got this book for a while and just didn't get to it. I absolutely love this book. (I thought it wouldn't be easy but end up I finished reading it yesterday....) I like the setting a lot. The climate just works so well with how all the characters show a lot of restraint in expressing themselves. That contrast just leaves an even greater impact on me.

This is my first read with this group as well. I chose to listen to this on audiobook since historical fiction isn't my favorite genre, but I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I'm thankful for the audio since I wouldn't be able to pronounce half of the names! I'm enjoying he story. I'm also enjoying Toti and there's something about Natan that's rubbing me the wrong way. I also like Marget. She was cracking me up talking to her friend about Rosalie.
