I'm going to record the audio version of my novel, and I was wondering what people expect from a good audio book. Does music help or harm the experience? Is it okay to do many different voices for the characters (I'm very good at impressions) or is that distracting? Is there something special you look for in an audio book? Any advice is appreciated. I want to go into this project prepared (I already have proper audio equipment ). Thanks again :)

I think it is actually ideal to act out each of the characters as you're portraying them, nothing bothers me more than a person who just merely reads from the page in a monotone voice. I personally go in for the story, so I don't care if there is music, and if the music is too loud, it might be distracting, so just some input! Hope you find it helpful!
I was hoping this would be the case. Original music can get kind of pricey, and I really do like acting out the characters. I actually do that before I write anything so I can get a feel for how they would act in a given situation :)
Speaking as some one who grew up on audiobooks, I love it when Author narrarate their own books. It just adds a lttle something extra when the Narrartor is so invested and passionate about the Story, so I think it's great that you want to do this. I love it when the characters are given voices, but make sure you don't overdo it or it can be distracting, as for the Music, I don't really have an opinion. Good Luck
