Books on the Nightstand discussion

Loved Ann's story about giving away War and Peace and then seeing the play, "Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812" at the A.R.T. in Cambridge. (BTW, folks - don't miss this if you're lucky enough to be in NYC later this year; one of the best theater experiences I've ever had, and that includes seeing the original London cast of Les Miz!)

After the play, I was compelled to search my shelves for War and Peace, determined to finish it! My husband's been trying to get through Moby Dick (after seeing the film, Heart of the Sea, which wasn't very good)...so we're in a race.

Why did you like the play Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812? Was is anything like the book War and Peace? War and Peace was awesome to read, and Les Miz my very favorite play.

It's a musical (really an opera) based on 70 pages from War and Peace. Immersive theater experience, as audience is surrounded by lots of movement, singing, dancing, Russian instruments. Check out the opening number--it's fun and witty.

I also saw and really enjoyed "Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812." The staging was fantastic. I still haven't cracked "War and Peace" though, and I'm not sure I will, at least not any time soon.
