I love Jack Reacher too -- he's tough and doesn't care what he does.
Do you have a favourite Jack Reacher book?
I think mine is One Shot - it was the first one I read and got me hooked on Jack Reacher. The film maybe was not quite as good but not too bad.

I like them all, Anne. I don't think I have a favorite Jack Reacher book. I've just discovered a new author (new to me) Mary Kay Andrews -- has anyone read her books? I'm reading Ladies' Night and really loving it. It's about a group of women and one man who have to attend divorce therapy sessions where they tell all about what their spouses did and how they retaliated.
Haven't found that one I must look out for the books.

The Mermaids Singing by Val McDemid
Val McDermid is the author of 30 bestsellers, She shares her time between Edinburgh and Cheshire, her awards include the CWA Cartier Diamond Dagger in 2010 and she has been inducted into the ITV3 Crime thriller awards hall of fame.
The Mermaids Singing is the first Tony Hill book first written 20 years ago, the book I have is the anniversary edition and includes an introduction by Lee Child. Lee Child is an award winning crime author in his own right.
The theme of the book is fear. And the Genre is Crime thiller.
This is a book with two story tellers, one of them is Tony Hill, profiler and disturbed individual, the only thing keeping him sane are strange but addictive phone calls from a woman he has never met. Sometimes he hangs up and other times he lets her talk. He justifies this by telling himself he is using her for his job, to understand who women will do what she is doing.
The second narrator is in the form of a diary being read in sections throughout the book telling the story of a killer.
Tony Hill is speaking in front of a group of police bosses, and feels he is wasting his time for the most part, then one Officer John Brandon, Bradfield Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Chief Constable (Crime) stops him for a quick chat. Brandon has had three murders on his patch and some people are starting to say there is a serial killer on the loose.
John Brandon invites Tony Hill to look at the evidence and create a profile on the killer’s or Killer.
Detective Superintendant Tom Cross is not impressed by the inclusion of Tony Hill in to the detection team, but then neither is he pleased to have Detective Inspector Carol Jordan on the team, Carol Jordan has been saying that the 3 murders are connected and Tom Cross is refusing to accept that she may be right. He has made sure each murder has its own team and no mention of seriel killer has been mentioned openly.
Everyting changes as Tony Hill is added to the team and John Brandon announces the murders will be looked at as one crime, Tony Cross has trouble accepting this.
Tony is partnered with Carol and she is tasked with bringing him upto date with the details of the crimes and making sure John Brandon stays in the know with any information and clues Tony may come up with.
As the teams come together to work the clues they look at the gay community for possible killers, as one of the detectives is attacked a possible killer is brought in for questioning, but when Tony is asked if this could be the killer he says no. Tony Cross hates the idea that someone he thinks is the killer could walk free he does something unforgivable.
As the story builds we start to see that Tony Hill has attracted the killer to him and he could be the next victim unless they can catch him before that happens.
A really clever story built around a profiler and the police as the tension builds we see the dysfunctional Tony Hill with a tenuous hold on reality, Carol has her own problems.
I could not put the book down even though I did find some of the more bloody scenes rather too much but as part of the story. I wanted to scream warnings at one moment and to hide behind my pillow the next.
I gave this book 5*
I just read my first Thomas Hardy book and loved it!
The Trumpet-Major
"I am amazed this is the first Thomas Hardy book I have ever read, and can't believe it took me this long to read one by this fantastic author! My husband gave me the DVD of "Far from the Maddening Crowd" and I decided to read some of his other works, this being one of them.
The plot of "The Trumpet-Major" is fantastic, with so many twists along the way that I was shocked on the last page at the outcome!"

I'm reading 'The Soul Shephard and the Threshold' by M.V. Noerrac, and it is an interesting fictionous take on the afterlife and how to guide the souls of the departed who feel that they still have things to correct in life. Recommended.
I'm reading "Naked Good Reads" by Gisela Hausmann and learning my way around Goodreads! She writes "No Fluff" nonfiction and is the author of several "Naked" books. Nothing sexual about them! https://www.amazon.com/Naked-Good-Rea...
