Lauren | 13 comments The most lively discussions for Eclectic Book Group in 2015 came from reading Sara Gruen's At the Water's Edge AND Kate Alcott's A Touch of Stardust.

On a personal level, my favorite book groups discussions I've attended have been for Room by Emma Donoghue and One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd by Jim Fergus

But I will say, I'm looking forward to attending some book groups this year, because I'm ahead with my reading :) I absolutely love A Man Called Ove and also Fredrick Backmans My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry .. I you have questions about these books, I can certainly help!!!

L.S. Moore | 3 comments I've been at this for ten years so I have a long list of favorites. But, a few of the adult group discussions that really stuck with me are: Hate List when the author, Jennifer Brown came to join us, The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon (in KitKeeper II) I've done that one twice, Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear, done that one twice too, The Round House by Louise Erdrich, All Creatures Great and Small by James Harriot, a great Xmas time feel good book and Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, this is a tough one, but if your group likes a challenge, go for it!

Maisie Dobbs! so many carry on reading the series after a book discussion of 'Maisie Dobbs'! Me included! I remember you recommending this title! I'm still on the outlook to make it a second kit!

Lauren | 13 comments Hi Raine! Eclectic Book Group loves best selling authors. The group is all ladies, mostly retired. They love historical fiction but are open to other genres. For At the Water's Edge, I think many group members were standing Sara Gruen fans. The storyline was very Sara Gruen and her characters are quite original. The group labeled this story entertaining and compelling.

Kate Alcott's A Touch of Stardust was just straight up historical fiction fun! The lead character is an impressive young woman driven to have a career in 1930s Hollywood screenwriting. She lands her first gig as an assistant on the set for Gone With the Wind. Carole Lombard and Clark Gable are main characters in the cast.

Catherine | 1 comments Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman had our book group really going! The discussion resembled a tennis match with conversation being served and the ball never dropping. Everyone seemed to have an opinion and wanted to share it.
This is a memoir of a woman who was sentenced to prison time for having acted as a drug mule for her girlfriend's drug lord. Having not committed another crime in 11 years, she gets off with a lesser sentence. The book talks about her prison stay and the people she meets and lives with during the time of her incarceration.

OOOO, I'm on a Thriller Kick right now!!!
This is Jack Reacher #14, funnily enough I've just order the first book in the series (I've never read a Jack Reacher!) Are these books able to be read as stand alones? or is it advisable to start at the beginning?

Nancy Packard | 6 comments The adult book club read The Dressmaker by Alcott. We had a fabulous discussion encompassing historical aspects of the titanic sinking, along with downfall of the rich thinking they can buy off people, and women in business. It was a good read.

Some of the best discussions that the Blue Ribbon book group has had:

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves was a fascinating discussion. It's hard to talk about this one without giving too much away, but there are all sorts of meaty issues to delve into.

Everything I Never Told You We had one of our biggest turnouts for this discussion about a daughter who goes missing. The family dynamics in this one gives it so much discussion potential.
