So February's group read is All the Light We Cannot See and I'm pretty excited about it! Not only is this a NYT bestseller but it won the Pulitzer Price too. Enjoy!

Ok, I'm about 50 pages in at this point. Not enough to judge a book by, I know, but I'm having some trouble motivating myself along. The imagery is great and I can feel that we're building up to something already, but the author really takes his time laying the ground work. I so hope that it has an amazing payoff at the end.
It took me longer than normal, but I've been sick the last few days and finally had some uninterrupted reading time. Here's my posted review!Doerr is a very poetic writer who has managed to bring beauty to a very dark time in the world's history. It's not intrigue really or the usual battle scenes, there are no war brides or swarthy French resistance fighters. Instead this is the story about two children growing up on opposite sides of a political line. It's about the inertia of a war and how it sweeps up everything in it's path. About the people we are meant to become and the people war makes us become. It's about the heroic futility of individualism and kindness in the midst of such a fast moving current and the reality of ordinary humanity on both sides of any conflict.
The story starts slowly and gains momentum. It also jumps back and forth not just between our two children but also in time. A very well written book which I'm sure will be showing up on many required reading lists in the years to come.
