Hi Goreti,

All good choices but I can only take one nomination per person, so if you want to let me know which one you want to nominate.

Looking at your list I think there is a good chance that some of the others will be nominated by somebody else, in fact there are two i'd definitely like to read!

Ali alhusainy i second snow crash , it's light straightforward and really a fun read

message 6: by Mark (new)

Mark I've been wanting to read Snow Read.

CS Barron I nominate Alien Earth by Megan Lindholm (1992). I was impressed by it when I read it way back when. ML is the earlier incarnation and alternate name for popular fantasy author Robin Hobb. I think the ML books are better written and more original than the RH books. They aspire to say more. ML wrote some excellent fantasy books also, e.g., Harpy's Flight, Wizard of the Pigeons, and I recommend them.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments On Basilisk Station by David Weber is the start of a great series. A female Horatio Hornblower in space.

message 9: by Manzoor (new)

Manzoor Elahi The Difference Engine by William Gibson & Bruce Sterling.

The Scribbling Man (thescribblingman) | 204 comments I second The Difference Engine! It's been on my shelf for far too long.

Ronald (rpdwyer) | 175 comments I nominate Her Smoke Rose Up Forever by James Triptree, Jr. (pen name of Alice Sheldon)

Wikipedia says that Her Smoke Rose Up Forever is a collection of science fiction and fantasy stories by author James Tiptree, Jr.. It was released in 1990 by Arkham House. It was published in an edition of 4,108 copies and was the author's second book published by Arkham House.

It was republished a few years ago.

I've read some of the stories before, published elsewhere. Mind. Blown.

The only reason I haven't read this yet is that my library doesn't have it. If it wins, I guess I'll finally just have to buy it.

Sorry, I got greedy.

Robot Visions, from Isaac Asimov

Cheers

Jo | 1094 comments I've not read any of these and as they all look good, I don't think i'm going to nominate anything this month.

message 15: by CS (new)

CS Barron Agree, all these nominations sound good. I'll probably read more than the book chosen for the group read.

message 16: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hammond | 1 comments robert sawyer wrote the first book of his Quintagio Ascention series in the 1990's. "Far-Seer" explores an alternative present-day where dinosaurs gain sentience and build a society. it avoids the anthropomorphic pitfalls that would be easy to fall back on and is a great quick read. the rest of the 3 book series is great Sawyer and highly under-rated!

message 17: by Jill (new)

Jill Carroll (carrolljill) I would like to nominate Nebula nominee Bellwether by Connie Willis. This very funny book about chaos theory makes my list of top 5 all time SF.
