The February 2016 book is Madam Fate by Marcia Douglas

Please post if you're reading.

I'm disappointed that my library doesn't have this one. The description reminds me a little of an old favorite, Sassafrass, Cypress & Indigo by Ntozake Shange (which I very much recommend checking out if you've never read it).

If any of you read Madame Fate, I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Katy (kathy_h) Can't find a copy of this one. I do see a used copy at Amazon for $5.09, so maybe I'll buy it. You have to admit the story line is intriguing.

Definitely intriguing.

So frustrating when that happens. And it's probably pointless to ask our libraries to purchase copies because it looks like the book is out of print. (I don't think libraries typically purchase second-hand books, unless they're rare collectors' volumes).

Some of the books I've gotten though interlibrary loans. The problem with that is you never know when or if the books are going to arrive. I often have the bad luck they arrive with many other books all at once and I can only keep them for a limited time period. Or else they arrive months after the group read is over!

I always forget about interlibrary loans. The only problem is, in my library system, I think you have to read the interlibrary books right there in the library, like reference books - I don't think you're allowed to take them home. I can't read an entire book with no natural light, no bathroom, no tea. And you're right, you have no control about when/if the books arrive. Also, depending on the institution they are from, you may get very little time to read them.

I think this all may be a bit easier if you can borrow an e-book, but I don't have an e-reader, so it's a moot point at the moment.

All that said, I'm enormously grateful for public libraries and easy access to most books. How lucky we are compared to people a few hundred years back!

Katy (kathy_h) I found a copy! I will read this one when I finish Nights at the Circus. So I will be late as usual in the group read.
