amg Welcome to our re-read of The Witch's Daughter! On this thread, you can discuss the book up to the section labelled Batchcombe, Wessex, 1627 (Chapter 1). Please be considerate and don't jump ahead -- we don't want to spoil anything for the first-time readers among us!

To kick off the discussion, here are five questions for you to answer in the comments section below. Anyone who answers these questions will be eligible to win an early copy of The Return of the Witch! Winner will be chosen on Friday, 2/5. Good luck!

Discussion Questions:
1. Who do you think Gideon is? Why do you think he has so much power over Bess?
2. Would you want to live in Willow Cottage? Why or why not?
3. Why do you think Elizabeth has such a strong reaction to the priest?
4. What do you think of Elizabeth's trade? (And would you purchase any of her products?)
5. What is your opinion of Tegan? Do you think Elizabeth telling her about witchcraft is a good idea, or a bad one?

Magiccats Hi, I am new to this site and to this author. I just came upon it while searching for a group to join that reads a different genre, So far am really enjoying the book. My answers are:
1. I think Gideon is an evil wizard. He seems to be stronger and I don't think Bess has realized she is a witch yet.
2. Willow Cottage seems like a nice place to live. I like both that it is in a small village (if you wanted to join there would be a sense of community, yet sometimes that can work against you if they pick up on something they don't understand, they could all band against one. ) Owning a small place of your own appeals to me and I love the description of the house with the two windows on each side of the door. The only drawback for me would be the woods at the back. I could see my imagination getting the best of me.
3. Elizabeth's reaction to the priest likely stems from the church purging the country of witches.
4. A herbalist would be an interesting trade, however these days I would find myself reluctant to try her wares (unless of course someone tried them first with no ill effects and they worked) LOL.
5. Telling Tegan about her witchcraft is likely not a good idea however I understand she likely has been alone for centuries without any really close friends and therefore would eventually reach out to someone. A true friend could be invaluable later however, if indeed Tegan falls into that category.
