Proteinaholic: How Our Obsession with Meat Is Killing Us and What We Can Do About ItI like it so far. With a protein obsessed culture, it's nice to see a book written about healthy eating that doesn't focus on meat. It focuses on fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.
I'm almost done with this one, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a big fan of essays and short stories. The stories are interesting enough to keep my attention, but I feel very little connection to the characters. If I'm taking time to read, I need some sort of connection.
I am listening to The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown. It is the story of the Crew Team from Washington University who won the gold medal in Rowing in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The story provides a very nice mix of rowing information and the human experience. I know nothing about rowing competitively so I am really enjoying learning about this, as well as, boat manufacturing. It sounds rather dry but believe me, it's not!
This book is The Scarlet Letter meets Divergent. In a not to distant future where violence has escalated nationwide, scientists have discovered a gene held by all killers. In an attempt to control violent outbreaks, a government agency is created and begins using DNA testing to identify carriers of the killer gene. These people are then placed in interment camps, all except for a select number of teens who have been identified as potential members of a special ops team. It's "nature vs nurture" at its dystopian finest. I can't get this book out of my head!
The City of MirrorsThe City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin. This is the third and final book in the 'The Passage' trilogy. I absolutely loved the first two books! I definitely recommend The Passage to anyone who likes Stephen King or is interested in science fiction/post-apocalyptic stories.
