Jaclyn Ho | 1 comments Traveler, your footprints
are the only road, nothing else.
Traveler, there is no road;
you make your own path as you walk.
As you walk, you make your own road,
and when you look back
you see the path
you will never travel again.
Traveler, there is no road;
only a ship's wake on the sea.

In your lifetime, you are the only one that controls your life

This poem is about how you need to find your own way in life. There is no one to find or walk a way in front of you unless you walk the way yourself. In the sea of destiny, you are a traveler. You are making your own road as you make every choice you have made in your life, but when you look back at what choices you made, you cannot remake your choices.

Like in Inkheart, there is no one to tell you where to go or what to do, only Meggie to find out her way in the swirl of life, seeking for truth and comfort that was gone after Capricorn went in her life. Meggie is like the traveler, alone in the sea of destiny. As she creates her own path, she meets more friends that she could put her life with and grows up from saying: “Where is Mo? Why isn’t he coming” to “I need to find Mo.” There is a very big change from wondering where are the people to protect her and protecting people whom she loves.

The poem and the book are very alike because they both talk about how you need to become independent and brave to protect people and things you love. Even though sometimes the choices you make are not the best ones, it is OK to make mistakes. When Meggie followed Dustfinger’s directions to Capricorn’s village that was probably not the best decision to be made. However choices cannot be retaken and you could do better next time.

They also have some differences. The poem is more pessimistic and the book is more positive. In the end of the poem, it said: “Traveler, there is no road; only a ship's wake on the sea.” After you have made all your choices, you would not make any more choices and you….die? Inkheart has a more positive ending and everyone lives happily ever after.

You need to find your own way in life to get through problems and make your own life. Nobody could decide or change your life. You would have to make your own way, own life, and own decisions.

Vivian Lai (waiwanvivianlai) I really like how you included a lot of your own thinking and philosophy.
