As far as i can tell the book just got extremely meta at the end as they realised that their world isn't real and they're living in an alternate reality. It was extremely weird and really quickly revealed. I would have liked to know more about what they did after making this discovery.

Philip K Dick commented that he wanted to write a sequel but didn't manage to complete it, based in what is written on the wiki

It reminded me a lot of Cloud Atlas, just the idea that there was a better world out there somewhere.

I don't know that it necessarily felt to me like the world wasn't real, so much as they realized that there WAS another world out there and they were in the wrong one.

Like they became aware that they were on a B-Timeline in a time travel movie.

I get this book, but I also don't get this book.
