A.F. Rose | 12 comments Yeah, They changed so much that I don't even understand what's going on sometimes! I hate to say it, but Jace is not sarcastic enough at all! he just doesn't have an attitude like he should.

Julia Griffis - The Romance Bibliophile (theromancebibliophile) Totally and completely agree! I hate to say it, but I am so disappointed with what they've done with the show compared to the books. The actors are okay, but they just don't pull off the characters like I thought they would. I truly had high hopes for the show, but after watching all the episodes so far, I'm just not feeling it.

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 281 comments Disappointed with Jace as well.

April | 13 comments They have Jace all serious in the series. I think Jamie is better Jace than Dom, but otherwise, I do like the series.

message 7: by Rieko (new)

Rieko | 3 comments I agree. I like pretty much every character on the show except Jace. I just think they are trying too hard with his dialogue and he has some really bad lines, so in my opinion the script doesn't make him shine. Why don't they just take his lines from the book ? Oh and did anybody else think that his relationship and chemistry with Clary is akward or a bit weird ?

message 8: by Sara (new)

Sara (luv2read445) | 15 comments I really don't like Dominic Sherwood as Jace, it's just not working.
I always pictured Jace with blonde wavy hair that was always kind of mussed, not slicked back.
As for the girl that plays Clary, she's just not the right person for the part! In my opinion, anyways.

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura | 70 comments I agree, I just don't quite think Clary and Jace are right. Also the writers aren't portraying them accurately. Jace is hardly even sarcastic and Clary is rather annoying.

I know! With a movie it is hard to fit in all of the details, but with a TV show, there's so much room for detail. I have no idea why they even started off on the wrong foot! Clary is not 18, her stele is not passed down from her mother, etc. It's just so annoying. They could have done so much better.

CW is not to keen on LGBT characters and Freeform is the most socially accepting cable channel ever

Laura | 70 comments In looks I think Matthew daddario could pull of Will except the eyes but not personality. I agree that he suits Alec!

message 18: by Jolie (new)

Jolie (jwarrenreads) | 9 comments I must say that I don't know how people can find enjoyment out of this show when there are plotholes wherever you look. I'm not even speaking as a booklover, I'm just talking about as a television viewer in general. It also really grinds my gears that they would include spoilers in their episode titles, like seriously, they called an episode Malec when Alec was getting married to Lydia (don't even get me started on that), like WHAT THE FUCK? I understand that some people find pleasure in this series somehow, but I just can't love it when there are all these things wrong with it.

message 20: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Jace is supposed to look practically angelic and his actor was super unattractive to me! I couldn't believe they made his gay brother hotter than him!

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Matthew Dadario was just how I imagined Alec though!! With Kat's mediocre acting and Jace's odd look i only kept watching for Malec!!

message 22: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Me too! By episode three I had given up all hope for Clace and was only watching for Alec!! I didn't love him that much in the book but he was my fav in the show!

message 23: by Trisha (new)

Trisha (theteareader) Regardless of popular opinion I love Kat and Dom as Clary and Jace. I think people need to understand that the show isn't going to be just like the books, there trying to surprise the people who have read the books. I think that for most people they have a image of what Clary and Jace should look but when they see Kat and Dom that isn't what they wanted. I think this is a major reason why readers don't usually like to film or television of the books. I can't wait to watch season 2 of Shadowhunters, I own all of season 1 and will also be buying season 2 and I'm proud of it!

message 25: by Meg (new)

Meg Bale | 4 comments I loved the actor choice of the TV Show - Dom and Kat are the perfect Clary and Jace. After watching the Vampire Academy movie, I wasn't sure that Dom was the right choice for the character...but I was totally proved wrong! AMAZING AMAZING, definitely must watch!

message 26: by Jackie (new)

Jackie ok ok so I watched the whole season BUT it was like pretty painful bc it was quite inaccurate (but I tried to get past that cause all movies/ tv shows are in SOME way) I'm torn whether I like Jace's casted character or not like in some aspects I do.... I dislike Clary's hair color, but I think Izzy and Alec were casted well. Also I pictured valentines lair veryyyyy differently...

It's true, they got quite a few things wrong, but I stop to think about the things that they have portrayed beautifully hehehe
Like ALEC's grumpiness at everything, Izzy's boss ass b!tch attitude, and Clary and Simon's bff relationship <3 I mean i can totally relate to how you find it unsettling when things dont work out the way the books did, like how Jace isn't portrayed as the snarky character we know, but I hope they take all our feedback and improve on it in Season 2! I'm so glad they were given this opportunity though!!

sorry for the blabber xD

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess they got a few things wrong but I found this way easier to watch than the movie. I think the characters were portrayed excellently and I especially love Matt, Emeraude and Dom. Kat's hair is on point.

Tamekia Sholts | 8 comments I have mixed feelings about the show. I like it, but then I don't. I would have preferred for them to make another movie instead of a show. It's not really mortal instruments when you think about it because they changed so much about it. I think Kat is an amazing actress and so is Dom, but I still can't get over the movie City of Bones. They really should have continued it. Overall, season one was great but they should aim it towards the book.

I feel the same way i love the series, and yes they are trying to please the viewers of the show but as you said they are trying to show us differently than what the books had. I just don't like the large information dumps they have in a few of the episodes. By this I mean the way they are trying to push the shadow world on the viewer too much.

message 36: by Niamh (new)

Niamh I just hope that they keep the major scenes in City of Ashes and transfer them to the series like the meeting with the Seelie Queen and when Clary makes her first rune...

message 37: by Sam (new)

Sam | 35 comments They keep saying that the show is going in a new direction but the characters personalities from the books stay the same. Okay. But let's be real nitpicky here and talk about the major differences in Clary. The clothes. Where are the sneakers? Where are the tee shirts and jeans? Why does she dress like a Clary/Izzy hybrid? Why are you running around in heels with your hair in your face?? The hair. Good God...she's a red head NOT a pumpkin. In the books she has lighter hair then her mom until COFA where she looks like a mini Jocelyn. Wavy red hair. Not orange. Firey doesn't equal orange. The biggest WTH is that she's now all of a sudden a Shadowhunter. No learning period. No winging it which is basically what Clary does until COLS. She is just instantly a badass with ninja skills? In a resent interview the cast said season 1 was only 19 days! In nineteen days Clary was not channeling her shandowhunter skills. It was all instinct and a whole lot of Jace. I get changing it up from the books to an extent but come on.....

Also in the books you have to have special training to hold a seraph blade because it is dangerous and they don't show that in the series or even the movie, they can just take up a blade and be a badass....

Oh! I completely forgot about that one, you are totally right. Did nobody over at show headquarters read the Codex??? The fumbling is what makes Clary so relatable in the books. The fact that she is a normal girl thrust into this world. She isn't skilled with weapons or in martial arts. She's a girl who draws, goes to comic book stores and coffee shops. She's flying my the seat of her pants trying not to die or get anyone she cares about killed. With the show so far, she just doesn't feel like Clary. The story was about watching how she grew into herself as a person and a Shadowhunter...Somehow, the show people have missed that. Also....where the hell is Jace's ring??? They were going to cut Izzys necklace out before fans started an uproar. That ring is and important symbol and a really big key for things to come....

Brookelyn | 22 comments Sam wrote: "They keep saying that the show is going in a new direction but the characters personalities from the books stay the same. Okay. But let's be real nitpicky here and talk about the major differences ..."

I totally agree. Clary is not supposed to already be super BA. She is supposed to be the one frozen on the staircase when Dorothea turns into a greater demon. Which, by the way, totally annoys me how she was portrayed in the show. And Clary in the show is way to serious! Every other sentence she says is about getting her mom back. Like okay, we know, we get it, you want your mom away from Valantine. But where is the sarcasm and snippy comments that made me love Clary?? Also, did the producers even read the books? Like why the hell is Alec marrying Lydia? There wasn't even a Lydia in the book. At least they gave her a shadowhunter last name. But that wasn't supposed to happen. And why is Ragnor dead already? Where is Sebastion if they wanna skip to his death? Why does Camille have the Book of the White when it was supposed to be in the burned down mansion? Why is Jocelyn back already? One of my biggest problems is the Institute. Why is it all techy and full of people? Shadowhunters are supposed to despise mundane technology. Also, Hodge is supposed to be young. I miss the old timey feel the Institute gave me. Big library with ancient books and hundreds of empty rooms. Why is the Shadow World so different? These are the questions that haunt me.

I still watch the show though:)

message 41: by Merissa (new)

Merissa (merissareads2) I absolutely loved the book series. I read the entire series in 6 days(1 book a day) and when I found out there was a TV series about it I downloaded Freeform and watched it within 2 days. I for the most part think the TV series is nothing like the books. But I still really liked it. I don't think it's possible to perfectly depict the books and I don't think they really tried. The books were great and I think the show is great. They're great in their own ways. I love watching the show and being able to pick out little pieces from the book that they've incorporated into the show. I would have loved to see the show follow the books a little more, but when you catch on to something that did happen in the book, it makes you appreciate it a little more. Plus they had to change it up, no one would watch it if all of the viewers knew exactly what was going to happen next. But everyone has their own opinion. I just love that we get to read about it, and see it's own little story on TV as well.

Oh...it's as if you've read my mind....I loved the feel of the institute too. Honestly...the movie portrayed it better. Only A few people should be there at all times. Where are the Old books or the artifacts?..like Seelie rings and a certain clockwork angel? Hello!! mundane technology is frowned upon. Yeah. Dot annoyed me too. No Clary, she's not like your big sister...she's a crazy lady from downstairs!!! Now Lydia..fine. Annoying but we get it.... They wanted MORE drama. But if they'd read the books AT ALL they would have known that we had enough drama already! We aren't in need of more. Jocelyn being awake is probably my biggest problem. What have you done to the story now that she's awake? The whole point of three books spanning what....a month? Was everyone trying to stop Valentine and save Jocelyn. Now she's going to be in everyone's business stating her unwanted opinions and trying to control Clare's actions. Is she now going to think Jace is her son? Are we not only going to have to deal with her dislike for him in general but now he's going to get the wrath for being the "demon son" too? The Book of the White should be in Wayland manor in the woman's cookbook waiting for the cuties to come get it and free an angel. Not with crazypants....just what? They don't even know if they're going to do the daylighter storyline. That ruins basically, every story line to come. What are they going to do to about Sebastian? What are they doing in general?

I still watch the show too ;)

Awww I think I found a new best friend! I kind of just watch the show for guilty pleasure, just to see the characters and I'm kinda curious as to where they go from here with the story line. And Malec. But those were just a few of the problems I had with the show, I just didn't have the energy to type them all. I will watch the 2nd season though. I fell in love with TMI and TID and now more recently TDA. Not to mention the Bane Chronicles and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and the Shadowhunter Codex, so it is disappointing to see them altered so much. I just really hope the second season turns out better. BTW where you from? I'm from North Dakota and there aren't a whole lot of huge fantasy lovers here because we are a super conservative state and I am interested about how many people are from ND on here

Yep. I am super curious to see where the show goes too. But it seems everytime my mind wanders or I re-read the books...so pretty much ALL THE TIME ;) I end up finding new changes that make me mad. I fell in love with TMI surprisingly by watching the movie. I got impatient waiting for movie 2....rightful so I'd say since it's been 3 years....I then decided to read the books....then the real obsessive love affair began. Now I've basically read everything Cassandra Clare has written. I'm from the Midwest unfortunately.... It's very cold here. I haven't found any fantasy lovers either....do you think they're all hiding in NY or LA??

Probs NY. That state is really big into literature. My dream is to move to Boston and be a journalist. Reading and writing are super important to me. That's why I love TMI so much, because they are masterpieces! The ties between TMI and TID are brilliant. I got into the books soon after I found out the show was coming out haha. But yeah, it's really cold up here too. And hot, depending on the season. ND, like I said is super conservative so Malec is kind of a scandal up here lol but I live to ship Malec! I have so many ships: Clace, Sizzy, Malec, Jessa and Wessa, and Jemma. Also Zanica and Rel, and Pora, they are not from Cassandra Clare though.

Reading and writing are really important to me too. Always have been a bit book crazy. TMI and TID are almost scary in the way they're tied together. Yeah. Weather over here is crazy too. Last week I was wearing shorts and now I'm contemplating putting on a parka ;) oh... I have so many ships....Clace, Warnette (Shatter Me), Freysand (ACOMAF) Daemon and Kat (Lux series) Romitri (VA) to name a few...what books are those ships from?

Well, Zanica and Rel are two from the Shapeshifter series but I forgot Boliza(kinda of a weird name) and Kicias(also weird) and Pora is from the Hush Hush series. Both are very underappreciated! They pull on my heart strings until it's like raining on my face. But there are so many more books I need to read. I swear I was born with a reading list I will never finish. Do you like any classics? Jane Austen, Charles Dickens...

It isn't only me? I feel the same way! My book list is more then I can afford or ever even come close to finishing before I die. Yes. I've watched more movies based on the classics then I've read the books though. (I know, I'm a weirdo). Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte are the bomb. I've probably watched or read all of Jane Austen's books and watched three different Jane Eyres. BBC is addicting. How about you?

Uh huh! I do enjoy reading the books better because they take me back in time. I love Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Just to name a few:) My favorite character from those classics have to be either Sydney Cartoon or Elizabeth Bennett. What other genres do you like? I like historical fiction and maybe a couple romcoms:) Depending on my mood. Also, total fangirl problem I need to know exists: after each book I read, my romantic standards get a lot higher. What with Will and Jace and Jem and Jules, how am I supposed to settle for any random football player in my grade? I'm gonna die alone:/

Oh I'm a bit all over the place. I read historical romance/fiction, fantacy, YA, adult romances, I love Scotland....so cheesy covered Highlander romances ;).I could probably recommend a book for whatever genre you'd be interested in. I agree...the struggle is real. Cassie has screwed us in the love department. Herondale men need to be out in the real world somewhere. Like in a Starbucks! You do in for a latte then BAM! Tall sarcastic blond boy with ninja skills! How old are you btw?
