Drop City discussion

The way Boyle discusses Pan's death is confusing to me. My mind wandered such that I thought Pan was delirious and grabbed a can of gas? Am I reading more into this than is there? How would a drink from a flask of alcohol cause problems with his esophagus?

You got me curious too. It might have had something to do with the -40 degree temperatures and the freezing point of the alcohol? Here's a discussion about this that references the book:
