Hi Team Scooby Doo!Excited to meet all of you and to start the challenge. I played last year and it was lots of fun!
Hey guys. I love this challenge. I participated last year. I came off the reserve list and it was so much fun. I'm glad to be starting at the beginning this time around
Hey Team!So happy to be here! Love book challenges, it makes reading so much more fun.
Although it's still going to be 2.5 weeks till March 1st...
Thanks for being our captain, Kierra!Last time they asked us to link our shelves so we could view each other's lists. I can't recall how to do that (or maybe it's not possible using my iPad). Can you give me instructions?
Hi, Juan! Nice to have you! Well, we already have our March hands (you can find them in this spreadsheet . And we can already choose some of the books we want to read for this challenge. If you're not sure what book you're going to read in March, you can choose later :)Nanci, we have this page with all the details about our team (players 15-21) and your shelf is called "UNO2016". I don't see this shelf in your profile... So just create it and if you can't provide the direct link, I can visit your page and copy it from my computer :)
Later I think we can type our links into our spreadsheet, so we can easily find them anytime.
I can read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn for card 5 in hand one, if you want. Thanks for the answer about the shelf. I'll add that when I get home to my laptop tomorrow.
Ok, Nanci, sounds nice! I guess there are just two team members missing so far. One of them is co-captain :)
Hi Kierra,I tried to add my book to the spreadsheet, but don't have permission. Maybe it's just you and the co-captain who does that?
Here's the link to my UNO2016 shelf.https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Kierra, I couldn't get the hyperlink in message 11 to work.
well, yes, me and co-captains asked moderators for permission to edit the spreadsheets (if the co-captains haven't done it yet, they should sent their emails). There was a proposal to create or own spreadsheet for the whole team to edit, so we could track all the books. It looked like this and if it's easier for you, we can do the same. And we will not choose the books, but just read what we want and see where to put it later.
So, what do you think of it?
Thanks for adding my bookshelf to the spreadsheet and the link in message 11 is now working.I like having our own spreadsheet as in message 16, but it's really up to you and the co-captain to decide since you're doing all the work. Whatever suits you best is fine by me!! :)
Hi Everyone!I'm excited to be on Team Scooby Doo!
I created my bookshelf for this challenge: uno-team-challenge-2016
Juan, we already have Dark Places in hand 2, but we will probably be moving books as challenge goes anyway. From last year's experience, you can read any book you like and then write here all the categories your book fits into (characters or places) and then we'll find a place for it :)By the way, did you get the permission to edit the sheet?
Sure, write your email address to Karen (moderator) or to Perks Moderator (she sent you the news about the challenge in PM).Tell her you're the co-captain for the Scooby Doo team.
Hello everyone!Sorry I am just getting to this today I had a busy week.
This is my first time doing this challenge and I am ready to have a great time with all of you.
Also I like the idea of the second spread sheet, that we all can edit.
Hey team!I have sent you all a link with an editable spreadsheet and you can add the books there into the right categories, so it might be easier to choose which hands to fill later.
PS I hope I didn't forget anyone.
I got the link to the new spreadsheet. I usually don't know what I'm going to read day to day so I just wing it and read whatever I'm in the mood for. But I usually read at least a book a day.
I'll just update the spreadsheet with the my books that fall into the different categories after I read them. Will the captain and co-captains be able to just assign them to the different hands?
Also, I just want to confirm the rules:
- 100+ books only (no children's picture books or graphic novels) or 25,000 words if no page numbers available
- Have to start book after March 1
- It looks like re-reads are okay(?)
It looks like we have 7 days, 15 hours, 20 minutes to go till the we can start according to this COUNTDOWN
Raine, yep, that's the point behind the new spreadsheet. You read what you like at first and list all possible categories. And by the end of the month we just fill the blanks and reassign the books if needed. You also got the rules right. Rereads seem to be ok, but I have asked moderators about it just in case.
Kierra,Thanks for the clarification on the re-reads. It is similar to the NBRC Tower Challenge. However, it doesn't look like the mods put that caveat in the rules at READ ME FIRST : All About the UNO Team Challenge.
It's probably something they should add.
Raine, yes, I had to ask moderators in the Captains topic. I guess they didn't have such a question before, that's why they didn't add it in the General rules topic.
I can't wait for the challenge to start. I already have my first book lined up, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Brianna,I read that in 2014 and gave it 3 stars. I still remember the story fairly well. I'll be curious to see what you think.
That's great. I'm really curious about it. I've seen some mixed reviews about it. I'll be sure to let you know what I thought about it , Nanci
Sounds good. I don't want to influence your thinking by saying anything now, but yes, let's discuss afterwards. :)
Kierra, I just added The Orphan Master's Son to the spreadsheet. I will be starting it soon, as part of another team challenge. Was anyone else thinking, "Oh, man, it's leap year. That means one extra day before the UNO challenge can start!" lol Kind of crazy, huh?
Happy Birthday to anyone who has today as their birthday and only gets to celebrate once every 4 years!
Ok, guys! The challenge has officially started, so any book you start reading now can be counted for it.
I have a friend who had his birthday yesterday (Feb 29th). Usually he celebrates it on March 1st, so every leap year he has 2 birthdays. That's more optimistic than having one birthday every 4 years lol :)
Share your passion for books
To get to know each other and share our passion for books we'd like you to share a book memory, write a couple of lines, what it meant to you, did a book change your life? Why do you always re-read the same book, which is you best book and why. What you share can be anything and everything. You are what you read and we want to get to know you.
Post your memory here: Share a book memory
(Don't forget to add your team name when you share)
I've finished a couple of books and updated the spreadsheet with the corresponding UNO cards/categories the books are in. I'm assuming one of the captains will update with the 'hand'.Let me know if I didn't do this correctly. Thanks!

Hello Raine!
Looking over the spreadsheet everything seems to be in order, but I do want to have our Captain look it over as well before I tell you it is good.
One thing I did notice though is that you did not add those books to your UNO bookshelf.
I finished Dark Places and updated it on the spreadsheet. I also added another book, Crying Days to the spreadsheet. I'm about 20% done with The Orphan Master's Son.
Raine wrote: "I've finished a couple of books and updated the spreadsheet with the corresponding UNO cards/categories the books are in. I'm assuming one of the captains will update with the 'hand'..."Raine, yes, everything's right. But you also have to put those books to your UNO shelf.
Nanci, good job! :)
Alicia, there is a sheet "Members" in our UNO spreadsheet. I put all the links to our UNO shelves there, it is easier for me to check it that way. Maybe it'll be easier for you too.
