Music is the inspiration behind a lot of artistic work. What's your inspiration? Be it music- care to share? Be it a great book- care to discuss it? Be it real life experiences, care to enlighten us? Tell us, what's your inspiration.

I'm a visual person, so I get a lot of my inspirations form what I see. Art work, such as paintings, drawings, and form movies. Plus what I read.

Forgot to mention Degas. I love his paintings of ballet dancers, which I am using as inspiration for a story I am writing.

Do you guys think that the environment in which we reside can influence our literary art?

message 17: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale It's possible. The war/battle sequences in both The Hobbit and LOTR were inspired by Professor Tolkien's service in the British Army during WWI... .as an officer

I live in Colorado, near the rocky mountains, and I know a lot of artist have been inspired by them. Like the song "America the Beautiful" and John Denver wrote his hit "Rocky Mountain High" based on the beauty of Colorado.

Amber Martingale I didn't, either, until a few years ago. A 2003 bio of him, called Tolkien and The Great War: The Threshold of Middle-Earth, goes into more detail about this, Lee. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... has more information for anyone interested in it.

Do you just randomly research these things or are they brought to your attention?

message 27: by Amber (last edited Mar 08, 2017 12:51PM) (new)

Amber Martingale Usually it's all random as hell. Sometimes, something will be pointed out to me while I'm looking for something else.
