I'm sorry to say that I agree, regrettably, that there are gender issues prevalent in most areas.Having said this, I wonder whether Detective Manx was a legend in his own (young) mind!
Ah yes, I think he thought a lot of himself! It was probably a bit of gender issue, FBI and playing devil's advocate as I certainly didn't like Manx, the fact that Maggie barged in on his scene. She also showed him up a bit which would have hurt his pride!
Tracey hits the nail on the head. He doesn't like the fact that the FBI is involved and the fact that Maggie is female is just adding insult to injury in his mind.
Her being female and an FBI agent elbowing her way into Detective Manx's crime scene uninvited was a real problem for him. Especially when she pointed out several things he missed.
He was such an ass I couldn't figure out if it was one or all of these factors. Later, when he deferred to Tully, the gender issue became more pronounced, IMO.
I think it had to do with both. He didn't like the thought that she may be there to take over things. It would make him look bad (although he did a good of that on his own). There are gender issues in law enforcement, fire and EMS. Hopefully with time that will change. I have seen it change in EMS as the older generation retires.
