I think it would be so easy to lose sight of a victim's humanity without his or her name as the reference point. Understandable for the investigators to distance themselves from the pain and agony, but also a possible slippery slope to depersonalization in other ways.
I think the investigators have to distance themselves from much of what they see in these cases. But Maggie certainly wasn't about to distance herself from anything on this case. She has seen first hand what Stuckey can do to real people.
I can understand people in this profession wanting to keep distance this way to preserve their sanity. I also understood how Maggie evolved after what happened in Nebraska. Seems it might be up to the individual as to what works best for them to maintain their sanity and humanity.
