Here are some books I gave 5 star rating to that I would recommend for everyone!
Love and Other Foreign Words
I thought this was a great novel. I had read it a while ago and it had really stayed with me for a long time. The reason I was affected by it was because it wasn't a clichéd love story. The main character, Josie, was hilarious and I could relate to her during certain parts of the story. I thought the whole novel overall was very realistic and also cracked me up at almost every page. I recommend this for those who are looking for a good laugh and a relatively easy read.
All Fall Down
I really enjoyed this book. It had such a creative plot that I could have never thought of myself. I think what differed it from other YA books was the protagonist and her style of narration. I think you would really enjoy it if you were looking for an intriguing and exciting thriller novel.
Rebel Belle
Rebel Belle is one of my favourite books ever. The protagonist is so sassy and funny and the plot gets me flipping the pages in excitement. There are so many twists in the plot that it makes the ending almost impossible to predict. Looking forwards to Rebel Belle #3: Lady Renegades!

The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt
This book is a new literary fiction book, and it has won a literary award. I think that despite the dark and mysterious impression it may give, it is actually a really funny and "slice-of-life" story. The protagonists have strong voices and personalities that give life to the story. The novel may just seem like a story, but I think that in order to get the full experience you must read carefully and a little in between the lines. It was enjoyable to read a book that made me think!
I agree with all Idil's choices, they are definitely some of my favourites! Here are my top three current favourites:1.
Though it won a Newberry Honour Medal, The Thief remains largely unacknowledged. The writing and syntax may seem simple on the surface, but beneath them Turner expresses a complex plot with intricate character relationships and political boundaries, especially in the later books. The characters are extremely original and the dialogue is revealing; this book forces the reader to think carefully, which is why I loved it.
2.
From the very first page, I was drawn into Hartman's poetic and descriptive writing style, and as I continued, her imaginative plot and characters did not disappoint. I widely considered this as my favourite book of all time, but Shadow Scale (dare I mention its cursed name) is a horror of horrors compared to the beautiful book that is its first. Dragons, saints, and mystical gardens...it is definitely a unique read.
3.
Again, this book requires thinking, anyone up for solving a murder mystery? Though the sequel to several previous detective novels, I read it as a stand alone and was able to understand most if not all of the action. The characters were complex, and I loved watching history old the conflicts between Francophones and Anglophones draw themselves out in modern day Quebec City. Yes, it's long, but worth every moment!
I read Ruby Reinvented. I really liked it. It's about a girl named Ruby who lives in LA. Her parents are famous and she finds out her friends only want to be her friend to meet her parents. She decides she wants to go to a boarding school where she accidentally said her parents died. Read the book to find out what happens! I really liked the plot but the end was a little disappointing and I hope she makes a second one. (Btw there are no spoilers!)
