So who does not want to be the ruler of a kingdom. Though I cannot say it the dream of everyone, a fair few have dreamed of becoming a royal prince or princess, enjoying the pleasures of being among the elite. Well, this challenge is sort of similar.
Start date: March 1st
End date: September 31st
The king of an imaginary place named Phoenix Kingdom, is choosing a successor. He is holding a grand ball where he will select the person whom he trusts. The best part of this is that you can get ready and become the ruler by doing something we all like - reading. He doesn't mind whether his successor is a male or a female. He will test you based on your appearance, modesty and qualities. Make sure you do everything right.
Step 1 - Getting dressed for the ball
The king is concerned about both the inner beauty as well as the appearance of a person. He wants a handsome prince or a winsome princess. So pick your best tuxedo or dress by reading a book with a dress or a tuxedo on the cover, or by reading a book which has a one in its title. (Example for the latter: Lady in the red dress)
Step 2 - Get to the ball
The king would also like a person who is punctual. He does not want his kingdom is flames just because the new ruler decided to procrastinate the training of their army. Choose your mode of transportation by reading a book with that on the cover, or includes the mode in its title.
Step 3 - Let the king observe you
When you've reached, the king begins to observe you. You, on the other hand, must act normal. The king likes people who show who they truly are, and abhors phonies. He wants to know what interests you, and whether you can remain the same person throughout rather than a capricious chameleon. Show him who you are by reading books which spell out the action you are doing. To make it simpler, you may use the title of a book, the first name and the last name of the same book to spell it out. (Example: If I want to dance, then I can read Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, and claim the letters D and C. Then I can read Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer and claim the letters A and E. If I read Nemesis by Agatha Christie to claim the letter N, I will have spelled out the word DANCE.) However, you may use the first letter of each name only.
Step 4 - Show him your table manners
The king hopes his successor is not a glutton since he doesn't want the food to be exhausted if a crucial time arrives. But he doesn't mind you loving food. Try to appease him with your table manners by reading a book with a picture of the food/drink on the cover, or read a book from a series which corresponds with the food in the following table.
Chicken - Book 1 of a series
Tea - Book 2 of a series
Wine - Book 3 of a series
Mulberry pie - Book 4 of a series
Step 5 - Show off your knowledge about royalty
The king calls you to him and tests you on how much you know about being a royal, and how much you know about administration. Do this by reading a book on royalty. It was be non-fiction, fiction, young-adult, fantasy, Elizabethan - the genre does not matter.
Step 6 - Present him your present
The king would like an exquisite gift from you, and you did come with a present to the ball, didn't you? Give him your gift by reading a book which has the gift you are giving on the cover, or where a character receives the item through any means.
Good luck with completing all of them. Make sure you impress the king with your latent qualities by reading. Before going, how about taking a look at the rules.
The Rules:
• A minimum of 6 books will have to be read, but don't worry, there is a lot of time for you to complete it.
• The books will have to be read completely! That would mean a rating is necessary. A review is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged. So that means no 'dnf'.
• One book can be used only for one step.
• Use a special format (preferably the one provided at the end in the example) to show how much you've done.
• Update your post regularly so that we know your progress. Points will be updated as you edit your posts.
• The steps need not be done in order.
• Signup for the challenge by posting the format below by just commenting of this post.
• Two re-reads are allowed throughout the entire challenge.
