Margo (dandylines) Could fit in fantasy and even Europe (take place in England). This is a historical fiction novel taking place just after King Arthur's time. It is the story of an aging couple going to visit their son. During the arduous trip they choose to go toward dangerous paths and away from their goal. They met Sir Gawain (former knight of the round table), another knight, a mysterious boy, a boatman, nasty monks, a few ogres and finally a dragon. The dragon's role is to breath a mist that makes people forget all but the latest days of their lives. They can not remember the war and they can not remember much about their lives.
I found it profound, complex and delightful. Ishiguro seems to have done his research into the period and has added lovely details of living conditions, knightly armor and food of the time. This is the first time I read this author, but it probably will not be the last. I read it for another book club.
