Whatcha reading?
I am just finishing up my class. I think I will write out an official summer book reading list for myself.
I've just finished the delightful but robust Tragic Desires - A.M. Hargrove. Now I am about to read Daughter - Jane Shemilt.
I hope to start today-
An American Tragedy by
Theodore DreiserI also plan on watching the movie which is titled
A Place in the Sun. I just requested it from my library.
Stars:
Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Shelley Winters
I'm reading
by Isobel English - very enjoyable. I'm listening to Talking it over by Julian Barnes, and really enjoying it.
Now buried deep in The Meaning of Treason by Rebecca West. Also dipping into The Collected Storiesand British Literary Anecdotes by Robert Hendrickson - both great at bedtime.
I am around, just not been reading much as I have had a bad case of thinking I liked a book and it turned out I didn't. Then there is my eldest son who wanted to move to Scotland and now isn't and my fridge/freezer blowing up and having to fork out £100 (GBP) for a new fridge lol.On a good note, I am reading Exquisite Betrayal - A.M. Hargrove which I am enjoying.
Since I last posted on here I have read
(got 25% into it and gave up as it was getting so many twists and turns). Then read
(which I absolutely loved) Then I've been reading
&
(which I am finding rather intriguing with the way the characters are a mess in their heads and stuff), I'm reading
at the moment.

Finished listening to:
This one had me giggling. okay chuckling often. Fun story.
Started listening to:
I'm trying to decide if I will finish The Stranger's Child. I like Hollinghurst but this is becoming a mess. Plus I want to give The Stand or Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era a try.

I just read my first Hiassen, I liked it a lot!
I've finished Embers & Ice - Isabella Modra. I'm reading The Billion Dollar Bachelor - Jackie Ashenden.
I've finished The Billion Dollar Bachelor - Jackie Ashenden. Now I am about to read The Billion Dollar Bad Boy - Jackie Ashenden.
Just coming to the end of The Luminaries it's a very long book, beautifully written, you really feel you are being transported to that time and place. The astrology is wasted on me, maybe it has more meaning to others. If you like a mystery then do pick it up.
This morning I finished and reviewed The Billion Dollar Bad Boy - Jackie Ashenden. I am now going to read The Billionaire Biker - Jackie Ashenden.
This morning I have finished and reviewed The Billionaire Biker - Jackie Ashenden. Now I am going to read Where the Bodies Are Buried - Christopher Brookmyre.
Now on The Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf. Also Black Market Activity in Britain, 1939-1955, which I hope will give me some career ideas.
I have read and reviewed Where the Bodies Are Buried - Christopher Brookmyre. Now I am reading A Million Dirty Secrets - C.L. Parker and then I will read A Million Guilty Pleasures - C.L. Parker.
I have read and reviewed A Million Dirty Secrets - C.L. Parker and A Million Guilty Pleasures - C.L. Parker. Now I am about to pick up Solace in Scandal - Kimberly Dean.
I have finished Solace in Scandal - Kimberly Dean, was a enticing read. Now I think I will read Black Swan Rising - Lee Carroll.
I finished Night Film - I liked the premise better than the execution. The suspense did keep me reading far past my bedtime, though.I want to read the second Fairyland book soon.
Hey Gail, have you read much of Murakami's other works? Ive read almost everything of his and 1Q84 was the first one that disappointed me, and I read it to the very end. Then again I love loved Kafka on the Shore and many people despise that novel even among Murakami's readers. Take that for what it's worth I guess :)
I just finished This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff and am currently reading...well I'm reading any things but I'd like to put a dent in some of these three Simon Schama books I have.

Kafka on the Shores is the only one I have read. I plan to read more. Still early days with 1Q84. I am enjoying it do far.

Gail wrote: "Just started reading 1Q84."Persevere. I think it is really worth it. If you have someone who can tell you about the links with traditional Japanese and Shinto mythology it will make a lot more sense. Badgers and cats do not appear randomly in this book! I'll not say more now.
I have just started reading The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust. This is next month's book club selection.I've got a few re-reads going on too.
Reading Los ingrávidos translated as "faces in the crowd" (translated version)-GR only added the Spanish version
Rereading Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. This is one of those titles I always come back to and read little portions of out of sequence. Right now I'm starting from the dense overture chapter where Causabon madly wanders through the museum. This opening chapter has scared off many a potential reader and lead people to see Eco as something as an intellectual show off, which is unfair.
I'm reading Someone by Alice McDermott for my library book group.I am about 30% in and find the writing amazing. The story is quiet and reflective.
Today I finished
Someone by Alice McDermottThe novel is very well written. I would give the writing style a 4 rating. The plot a 3. It's a quiet novel that is comprised of a series of non-linear , somewhat melancholy, memories of young girl as she grows into adulthood.
My next read is
Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

I've read about 50 pages and so far I am loving it.
The story is mostly told through letters. It's quite funny.

I think it just gets better and better.
Carol wrote: "I think I picked Bernadette as one of my free audiobooks. Maybe I'll listen at the gym, GAHHH."I've read about 100 pages. Parts of it are making me laugh out loud. So if that's a problem at the gym.... :)
I'm putting Bernadette on hold with my library. It's been on my list for a while, glad to get a review.

One is on Kindle and can be read with one hand on the subway. The other is literally heavier so I'm reading it in bed.
