For instance, there "The Berlin File", where the ROK, DPRK and a cell of Islamic Extremists play a lethal game across the German capital.
And then there's IRIS, their answer to "24". I was particularly impressed at all the research/preparation they put into the two seasons and the spin-off that was also produced.

Korean film production in general is really good. Their approach to story telling doesn't adhere to the same conventions we're used to and offers some nice surprises to newcomers.

So true. They're willing to subvert many tropes and pull gutsy and at times brutal moves with gleeful abandon

I heard a rumor that THE SUSPECT was going to be the first part of a trilogy. Korean film makers dont seem to do sequels--or not too often anyway.
Samuel wrote: "Well, if it will be a trilogy, that's great news.""Trilogy" in this instance could mean three similarly themed films.

Ah, that works as well.

Ah, that works as well.
For example, there's the Vengeance Trilogy: OLD BOY, SYMPATHY FOR MISTER VENGEANCE, and LADY VENGEANCE. The storylines don't correlate but it's the same director (Takashi Miike) and the movies are variations on a theme. If THE SUSPECT is part of a trilogy it's possible that each story is a standalone narrative.

Ji Dong-chul is a North Korean defector living in Seoul. When his boss is murdered and the people responsible try to frame him and kill him they discover that he's not to be trifled with.
This movie was released in 2014. Essentially, it's The (Korean) Bourne Identity. While it hits a lot of familiar notes it manages to do it in a fresh and interesting way while incorporating some themes not explored in any of the Bourne Films.
I really liked it.
Has anyone else seen THE SUSPECT?
