2017 Reading Challenge discussion

I'm a big fan of Rainbow Rowell, so I had reserved her newest book at the library not knowing what it was about. This was a strange read if you have read her book Fangirl before. Basically, she writes the book that her Fangirl character was writing fan fiction about. Strange, but also cool. The story is very clearly a Harry Potter takeoff, and as a huge HP fan I have mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, it was fun to read another story in a similar vein. On the other hand, the very obvious Harry Potter with just some names/ideas changed was annoying at first. Overall I really enjoyed the book, but my favorite part was definitely the characters and relationship built between Simon and Baz. Because I had read Fangirl, I knew what was coming, but I was still pleased by how well the chemistry was created between the two characters.
